Idea to raise $ fast for Air America: a Lefty Stock Exchange |
|
Edited on Fri May-07-04 09:43 AM by BurtWorm
For example, people could invest in Air America for as little as $1 a stock. This would enable Air America to raise millions quickly.
I'm no stock market expert, but I thought I would throw this out for discussion. Could this work? Could we make a LeftExchange to help finance left wing enterprises like Air America, as an alternative to the Dow, Nasdaq etc.?

2. aint gonna happen unless... |
|
the business can make money.
From what I've read, the people financing Air America expect to lose money on it for several more years.

4. Suppose Air America needed help to pay bills fast, though. |
|
Would it be possible for them to raise money quickly by offering stock in an unconventional, Internet based market?

The Securities Laws (with good reason) place significant limitations on raising capital in public solicitations. Any capital financing transaction where significant numbers of small investors purchase shares must be registered with the SEC.
Now, people could donate to their hearts content, but they would not become sharehoders or have an economic interest in the company.
<ON EDIT> Registration of an offering with the SEC is a lengthy and costly process.

That's what I was afraid of. It seemed like a ready solution to a cash flow problem if 100,000 Air America listeners each gave $5 or $10.
