Ok, let's imagine Rummy's gone...who's gonna replace him? Somebody worse? |
|
I don't know if you could get much worse than Rummy, but let's think about this.
Who would replace him if he resigned? Perle? Libby? Wolfowitz?
I think he's become a liability to bush, so I'd prefer he'd stay. I think that his successor might be even worse. You know bush is not going to put in that position anybody that we like.
....
Agree or Disagree? And who do you think would replace him?

1. The Senate confirmation process could interfere with... |
|
...King George's attempted re-coronation. And that would be good.

They would cry that the Dems are keeping them from having a Secretary of Defense at a "time of war."
You think they bitched like little babies over some judges, just think how much they'd wail about a "wartime" Cabinet position. Also, I don't know if there's a recess coming up or not...recess appointment?

Replace one Chickenhawk with another. They are all from PNAC. The only way to solve this problem is to purge the whole bunch starting at the top.

evil, but Wolfowitz revels in his wickedness. I think he'd be much worse.

8. That makes sense, but here's my counterpoint: |
|
They could make Rummy resign and blame it all on him, and like Ollie North, he "takes one for the team."
If they keep him, they can't point the finger too much at him, because they didn't fire him. Therefore the blame spreads.

7. This man must pay the price for his POLICIES. He must be fired. |
|
Rumsfeld's policies CAUSED these abuses that have put my country and yours to shame.
At the outset of combat two years ago, Rumsfeld announced:
1. that detainees in Afghanistan "do not have any rights" under the Geneva Conventions, which are "outdated", 2. that there will be no formal hearings to determine whether detainees are prisoners of war or unlawful combatants (as GCs require), 3. that Army regulations on the interrogation of prisoners no longer apply, 4. that detainees may be held incommunicado, 5. that detainees may be deprived of legal representation, even if they are US citizens, 6. that--even after all of the previous standards of conduct had been waived--no new procedures were put in place to ensure against violations of conduct.
Those POLICIES produced the ABUSE!.
Rumsfeld must be publicly rebuked and humiliated and FIRED. Now.

10. You think Rummy made those decisions |
|
Edited on Fri May-07-04 07:41 PM by TroubleMan
I'm sure those got signed off by Cheney, Rove, Perle, and Wolfowitz (the guys who are really running things), and they directed Rummy to do that.
(I'm not trying to defend Rummy - I think he's a piece of shit - but I doubt he really makes any military decisions....he was a corporate crook who has no military experience)
-on edit...his incompetence just makes things worse for bush, but I truly believe that anybody they appoint after him will be worse. At least now he has to "walk on eggshells" and maybe he won't be able to get away with more shit, while some new guy they appoint acts like he's coming in to save DOD, and he's given free run to do whatever he wants.
