I am sick of people saying Abu Ghraib is an aberration...

.. torture is and has been a routine part of U.S. military practice for decades... in fact the new ambassador to Iraq supervised torture and murder in Latin America up till his appointment to the UN.

.. all that is happening now is that the U.S. public is finally waking up to what has been done in their name for generations.

1. Hey, it was

only 6 or 8 bad apples, and they only worked between 22:00 and 04:00
and they didn't salute and they called their commanders by first
name... and didn't wear proper uniforms... and stuff.

Didn't you hear the generals explain this already!!!

I mean, what does it take to explain this? Jeez.

(OK, sarcasm mode off.)

3. Introducing the Rodney King Factor

No one would have believed his story about police brutality if it hadn't been captured on video.

You bet they tried to discredit these photos and to cover them up.

When they say they are sorry, yes, they are sincere -- they are sorry they got caught.

Yes -- torture has been going on under US auspices for decades, but it seems it took the proliferation of digital media (camera and websites) for people to begin to record instances of it.

4. True... I think it has also taken a media and public that are
.. so disgusted with so many aspects of this administration that they are no longer willing to look the other way.
