Just watched the McLaughlin Group and what a bunch
strange personalities meshed together in this forum. I've only seen it a couple of times, usually just by flipping through the channels.
McLaughlin was fired up tonight about these pictures. Not sure what side of the fence he sits on. Does anybody else watch this?

1. I like Mort Kondracke...

...even though he's conservative, I think he THINKS at least.

4. Conservative...republican....

pretty hardcore...but he's kind of funny to watch.

Mort's the best of the conservatives in this group, for sure (which ain't saying much, but again I like him)

21. Kondracke isn't what he once was
I've been watching this program since the early 1980s and in those days Kondracke kicked the ass of Republicans and conservatives. While he has a few redeeming moments every year don't forget that his current job is split between being an editor for a political newspaper (The Hill?) and being a "commentator" on Faux News with Fred Barnes.

He has averaged out over the years into being just another media whore who, at times, shines just a bit brighter than the rest.

26. yeah, it's too bad....

Still I can't muster as much disdain for Mort as I do the others on the show (except Eleanor). I don't know if they still do, but they used to just run over her while she was trying to speak. I hate the way some people use their louder deeper voices to dominate discussion (mostly men!)

3. Taguba report mentioned
He was quoting from and holding up like the bible this report that has just been released. Fired up is putting it mildly. I have watched this program for some time and while JM is sometimes on another planet, I believe his apparent indignation over this situation was sincere.
He was talking as if this will inevitably play out like Watergate.

5. yeah..he's conservative, but kind of old school...

I think anyone with common sense who hasn't been totally brainwashed is indignant about this -- even some of the Republican senators were railing on and on about it.

Is he still a regular on the show? I haven't had tv for over 5 months.

8. Love, love,love.......
that show. Watched it for years. McLaughlin has mellowed in recent years. I think he is on the other side though. At least the OLD other side. Don't think he thinks much of this current crew. Just my opinion.

30. I agree
The main thing I don't like about this show, is that they go in for theatrics and talk over one another with McLaughlin shouting at the top of his lungs to get his point across, right or wrong.

10. Tony Blankley is an ass
and I think McLaughlin was a Nixon speech writer or something. Usually the ratio is about 3 or 4 right wingers to one Eleanor, but I still think she does a great job demanding her share of the time. (In spite of blow-hard Blankley). The 4 to 1 ratio makes McLaughlin slightly more "Fair and Balanced" than Fox.

12. Both McLaughlin and Buchanan have been against the war
Edited on Fri May-07-04 10:39 PM by 5thGenDemocrat
Since it started. Tony Blankley's useless as a political commentator, but he's good to his twelve or fourteen cats -- so that's something.
And the guys have been messing with Eleanor since the beginning. They talk over her because they know it pisses her off. She gets her shots in, anyhow.
John
Loyal McLaughlin dude. Can't imagine Friday night without it.

13. McLaughlin has gotten a bit more Liberal - it seems.
He's really gotten po'd about the war in Iraq and is also pro-environment. He used to be pretty Republican I thought - but he's really turned around in the last few years.

John's mellowed a lot. He used to be scary. Now he is just a bright guy who seems to dislike the neocons as much as the neoliberals.

17. How big is the stain
very small or the size of the septic tank off the Titanic! I laughed my ass of when he said that. When is Tiny Blankley going to have his heart attack? I know he's due for one, cannot stand him.

18. McLaughlin is an old-school conservative,
as is Pat Buchanan.

Tony Blankley I have no use for, he is such a WHORE.

Eleanor Clift more than holds her own against the others.

I like the show a lot, because they try to be civil most of the time, don't engage in name-calling or insults. They stick to the issues and engage in SERIOUS debate.

19. SNL used to do a great job on it
I haven't watched McLaughlin in years, but SNL did a great parody years ago – "The Sinatra Group," with Joe Piscopo (or Phil Hartman) as Frank, the leader. The panel included sycophants Steve & Eydie, who agreed with everything Frank said, out of fear. "Right, Frank!"

22. McLaughlin sees the light on rare occasions
John McLaughlin has surprised me at times by having a sense of outrage over issues that most conservatives would dismiss. I haven't seen this week's issue of his program, but I think this issue (Iraqi prison torture) is the sort of thing he will slam in a big way. I hope he does so.

Not that it means anything to me but he was trained as a Jesuit priest and and once served in that capacity ... until he re-discovered sex, apparently. He truly saw the light on that day!

she had to scream it but it was an excellent shot.

You can always tell when the Boo$hies are really in trouble because Toadie Blankhead constantly interrupts her.
