I can't help it. I awoke this morning thinking about Mel Gibson's movie the Passion of Christ and how it compared to the torture of the Iraqi people, or just abuse and torture of war in general. And how at the very time this movie came out American soldiers possibly were torturing people from a very part of the world where it all began. Is it just me or is there some relative comparison here? Possiby the train of thought I am having is that man has not changed one bit in 2,000 years...

But I think there's a distinct difference.
Christ was tortured for a reason.
The Iraqi POWs weren't.

My mind and psyche are very disturbed by this prisoner torture news. I am also afraid that Americans are so used to seeing violence on their television sets, they will not be able to see it as a reality.

It was only after his death that his followers turned him into a martyr who died for our sins. The Iraqi prisoners torture was not as cruel as the torture of Christ but by far more sick and perverted than the torture of Christ.
It now appears that this is just the tip of the ice berg. I believe that this is systemic.

The torture of the POWs was more sick and perverted than the torture of Christ.

.. only that was before all this came out and then my thought was yes this violence is terrible, but not so much more terrible than what is happening in Fallujah...
.. the Romans in Israel circa 0 and the Americans in Iraq circa 2004 display very similar conduct. Utter contempt for the human rights of their colonial subjects.

...and it will likely go on with empires in the future...sort of sad how sick we humans can be when we have a little power to wield.
