CNN Front Page: "Bush: Rumsfeld Doing A Superb Job"
Edited on Mon May-10-04 11:22 AM by Bush_Eats_Beef
http://www.cnn.com/

"President Bush today praised embattled Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, saying he was doing "a superb job" who the nation owes "a debt of gratitude." In comments after a briefing by officials at the Pentagon, Bush said the United States "will honor the rule of law" in its investigation of abuse at Iraqi prisons."

su·perb (soo púrb)

2. grand: impressive in size or appearance
3. sumptuous: rich and sumptuous in appearance or detail

Mid-16th century. Via French from Latin superbus “proud, superior,” from super (see super-).

Is it just me, or do Dubya's ears look "extra-pointy" today?

9. He is not in charge of anything......
He cannot fire Rumsfeld even if he wanted to. He is not the President. Cheney is. Bush is a figurehead. Someone they could get elected, and them impliment their agenda through. I repeat, he is not making any decisions.

6. From the CNN article
Quote from Bush:

"One difference between democracies and dictatorships," he said, is that free countries confront such behavior "openly and directly."

Then why did it take four months for this stuff to be made public? What a moron.

Iraq: Stripped naked and humiliated by US soldiers
Amnesty International expressed concern today at the disturbing article and images portrayed in the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet which show American soldiers escorting naked Iraqi men through a park in Baghdad. The pictures reveal that someone has written the words 'Ali Baba - Haram(i)' (which means Ali Baba - thief) in Arabic on the prisoners' chests.

The article quotes a US military officer as saying that this treatment is an effective method of deterring thieves from entering the park and is a method which will be used again; another US military officer is quoted as saying that US soldiers are not allowed to treat prisoners inhumanely.

"If these pictures are accurate, this is an appalling way to treat prisoners. Such degrading treatment is a clear violation of the responsibilities of the occupying powers," Amnesty International said today.

"Whatever the reason for their detention, these men must at all times be treated humanely. The US authorities must investigate this incident and publicly release their findings."

Article 27 of the Fourth Geneva Convention clearly states that "Protected persons are entitled in all circumstances, to respect for their persons, their honour, their family rights, their religious convictions and practices, and their manner and customs. They shall at all times be humanely treated, and shall be protected especially against all acts of violence or threats thereof and against insults and public curiosity".

11. Typical Over The Top Aggressive Orwellian Response
This is their thinking on this tactic; Not only do we NOT fire Rummy, we praise him as being the BEST EVER, even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. This is propoganda 101. Not only do you claim the opposite of reality, you do it with GUSTO. In theory it serves to confuse and muddle the entire affair. Those with less than stellar critical thinking abilities will, in theory, be utterly confused and tune out.

This tactic will fail though. Unfortunately for Bushco. this will not work on enough people and will not work when you are already being perceived critically by much of the populace as is the case now.

14. Outstanding - this is great news!
It has been a pleasure watching Chimpy chain himself to the corpse that is Rumsfeld. He's made his bed, and now he gets to deal with its lumpy mattress and bloody sheets.

The next few weeks are going to make for diverting political viewing, to say the least!!

16. This pleases me
This statement by * and Cheney's earlier statement that Rumsfeld is the "greatest Secretary of Defense in history" bring me a degree of pleasure.

If they can't be implicated directly in the torture scandal, I can't think of anything much better than the Idiots-in-Chief hitching their wagon to Rumsfeld -- whose plans have failed across the board, from insufficient occupation forces, post-invasion occupation and disregarding State Department planning, privatization of tasks previously under military jurisdiction, failure to capture bin Laden, etc.
