(Nashville-AP) -- Some Vanderbilt students and faculty, including the chancellor's wife, have signed a petition to protest a visit to the school this week by National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice. Rice is scheduled to give a speech Thursday at Vanderbilt's inaugural Senior Class Day. As part of her visit, Rice will be given the Chancellor's Medal. Professor Constance Gee (gee), wife of the chancellor, is one of 128 who have signed the petition. The document said Vanderbilt is expected to teach students respect for the truth, yet the university will honor a person who repeatedly misrepresented the truth to tragic effect.

Condoleezza is Coming to NASHVILLE!
Condoleezza is ComingThursday, May 13thWest End Ave/Vanderbilton West End between 22nd and 23rd (across from Kinkos)9:30am - 10:30am
For the last 2.5 years, Dr. Condoleezza Rice has served as our NationalSecurity Advisor. On May 13, she will be receiving a public service awardfrom Vanderbilt -- presumably on the merits of her advice. We object. Since 2001: she has:
1) Championed an international foreign policy that includes pre-emptive warand uses words like "Axis of Evil" to endear us to other countries.
2) Abandoned the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile treaty to create a NuclearDefense Shield.
3) Helped pull us out of the International Criminal Court
4) Not apologized for any of her misstatements regarding weapons of massdestruction, the war in Iraq, and September 11.
Come to West End to protest the War in Iraq, Dr. Rice's record of publicservice (i.e. serving on the board of Chevron corporation), and Vanderbilt vice chancellor Michael Schoenfeld's very political choice (call him at615-343-1790).
Vanderbilt staff faculty and students: Concerned Vanderbilt Citizens (CVC)who object to Condoleezza's Vanderbilt Campaigning (CVC) will be passing out black armbands for her 10:00 speech on alumni lawn. They are also organizing a sign-out letter of dissent for the vice-chancellor's choice of Ms. Rice for the public service award.
