Bush testing DRAFT, gearing up CO process first time in 30 years, No Child
Left Behind Act requires schools for first time to turn over names of students for DRAFT, Alternative Service writing agreements NOW to place COs with employers after DRAFT restarts in 2005 (now most likely scenario), filling up vacant DRAFT BOARD slots for first time in 20 years.

As the war in Iraq heats up and defense officials extend troop deployments overseas, some Inland residents wonder: Will the draft come back?

It's a concern fueled by bad news from the war, heavy use of reserve troops throughout the world and a provision of the No Child Left Behind Act that for the first time requires public school officials to turn over student names, addresses and phone numbers to military recruiters.

Numerous Internet sites and chat rooms are full of theories that a test of the Selective Service lottery system this year means the Bush administration will reinstate the draft after the November election.

"We're concerned that it might be a real viable thing," said J.E. McNeil, executive director of the Center on Conscience & War, which is organizing the lobbying effort. The center is a nonprofit, interreligious peace group based in Washington, D.C. "We want to make sure Congress understands there is no good reason for a draft. They don't stop wars."

BUSH '04 = DRAFT '05

John Kerry has a NO-DRAFT PLAN. Ask me anything about it!

1. Inactive Reserve Callup May 17?
A young mother in our family is in the inactive reserve, Army Airborne and was contacted by someone, possibly and overzealous recruiter, yesterday and told that all inactive people would be assigned to units by next week and would be called up starting May 17 for duty most likely in Iraq.

We have been unable to verify this by news media, military informational websites or those already serving.

Anybody heard anything?

A woman at my work is in the inactive reserve. Her former unit is in Iraq right now and she has not been contacted.
