Simple question. Have you at any time in your life had a favorable opinion of GWB?

and he was president of the Rangers (I was a fan of 'em). I thought he was an OK guy and not a dick like his dad, time and research have proven that I was VERY wrong.

7. His presence in Tx baseball - cost a lot of jobs in Ypsilanti Michigan |
|
so I disliked him (just for influence peddling) even back in about 92/93.
See GM put Arlington Texas and Ypsilanti Michigan into a bidding war of sorts to keep open their local GM plant. The cities were to give the better tax cuts and other deals... and then GM would chose one.
This was a huge employer in Ypsi. don't know about Arlington. So Ypsi did all sorts of backflips to try to keep GM.
In the end - jobs all went to Arlington - not because of a better deal in Arlington (iirc), but because they were similar deals - and it just might be a good thing (favor wise) to do something that benefits the presidents son... who had interest in this baseball team... and in Arlington...

it had a huge economic impact on the community. Including the threatening of closure of the local notforprofit (re: serves poor people) community hospital. With aftermath like that - its hard not to notice.
But can't blame anyone not in the region for not being aware.

I always thought he would be hysterical, drunk at your backyard bbq; I don't even drink anymore, but from my old drinking days, that's 'favorable'.
And I really do think he pulled it all together for a few weeks after 9/11 and I do have to give him credit for that. However, I know for a fact had Al Gore been President the Republicans would have just ripped him apart so maybe the credit ought to go to our own Democrats.
That's it. Favorable? Temporary Insanity? Comprehension deficit? I don't know.

The reason for this poll is to prove a point. According to national polls conducted a few months ago, 30% of Democrats approved of Bush. This poll simply demonstrates that DU is left of most Democrats, and way left of the country as a whole.

not everything subscribes to the right ideologies which have shifted much of the country and public perceptions about a whole range of issues to the right. Todays center is not the center of even 1985.
Nice to have a haven. Nice to see thinking that was common on the Hill in the eighties in democratic circles, expressed on a regular basis.
But it is not representative of the whole.

... to classify someone as "left". I know plenty of people who are fairly conservitive who can't stand the chimp. What ties them all together is the fact that they are all very politically aware, and in general 'big picture' type of people, e.g. the typer of person who thinks about not only their own personal well being, but the well being of socity as a whole.

tales about Poppy Bush and he felt no qualms about repeating them over and over and over. And when Poppy was getting geared up to go into politics, he almost had a stroke. He always said that it should be illegal for anyone who was head of the CIA to become President because he had tooooo damn much on tooooo damn many.
Then there was the Neil Bush fiasco. Fucking crook.
So when Jeb and Shrub got into politics, I absolutely KNEW we were screwed. The whole family is corrupt. The stories about old Prescott are not new. This information came out years ago. The family was known to be crooked to the core.
So what I want to know is, how could anyone EVER have had a good opinion about Shrub. Wasn't anyone ever paying attention????????

...or even 6-percent, as I saw some polls put the figure. In fact, I was wearing my "Bush Cheated" shirt the day the twin towers went down. (Of course, I had put it on before I heard about the attacks. I thought about changing it so as not to seem "unpatriotic" but then decided that simply because a disaster happened on his watch was no reason to accord the Chimp any legitimacy!)
And no, I never respected * from the moment I first knew him as the guy who defeated Ann Richards for governor when I was a kid. I do admit to thinking at some point that he was more moderate than I now know him to be, but even then I considered him to be a cocky and obnoxious bastard!

Of course my life is shorter than most of you. I first heard about him on that Simpsons episode when Poppy moves in to the neighborood. Now also I read my dad's Rolling Stone one day about how the death penalty was down in Texas, that made me hate him, and combined with the movie the Green Mile turn me from a mild supporter of the death penalty to someone who wants to see it abolished. After Gore gave up on 12/12/00, I tried to tell myself that Bush will be a centrist, I lied to myself I know I did, and I wanted to protest the inguaration, and when I found about Ashcroft :puke:. I voted for Gore in 8th grade mock election.

|
When I first heard he'd run in 1999, nieve as I was for a 12 year old, I wanted him in the White House because I thought Gore was boring. But I hated Shrub after hearing about how he trashed McCain during the South Carolina primary, and my parents refused to vote for him partly because of that. That election was the first one I paid attention to, and the more I heard about how reactionary the Republicans were, the more I disliked them.

58. At the time, I really didn't understand the hype over Carla Faye Tucker. |
|
I didn't realize that because she "got religion" (and therefore she thought she could make a difference to the other prisoners if she got "Life" rather than "Death") she was appealing to a Governor who campaigned on how he had turned his life around after he got religion. A Governor who said to not pay any attention to what he did before he had been "saved".
If he had applied the same rules to her that he wanted applied to him: She would be walking free. (That would have been a lot more than she had asked for.) He gave her nothing. The rules only apply to him. She must die.
And that is the definition of Compasionate Conservatism!

I have a favorable opinion neither of Bush, nor of Bush Sr., nor of Ronald Reagan. All of these individuals are connected!!!!
I may be 'conservative' on certain issues. I am in favor of family values. I'm against gratuitous vulgarity and against pornography. I'd like this to be a family-friendly site. 'Horrors!!!!' I'm even in favor of nuclear power, like the way it's done in France, spearheaded by the very-leftistIrene Joliet-Curie. Might wanna read up on her some time. She was involved in the French Resistance against nazi occupation during the early 1940s.
I am against the Reagan-Bush dismantling of the Social Security and pension-employment system that has kept an American standard of living. Yes, Ray-Gun, Bush Sr. and Bush Jr. are connected!

I didn't support many (any?) of his policies, and I didn't vote for him. I was too young to vote in 1980, but would've voted for Carter. And in 1984, I voted for Mondale. I think his agenda was seriously misguided, but I don't think he was an evil man. I DO think the Bushes, the whole lot of them, are evil to the core. In fact, I think there may be some truth to some of the stories implicating GHWB to the Reagan assassination attempt.

44. Hated Jr. from day one - Poppy was OK I guess but I was naive |
|
about politics back then. But with the Caryle Group I can't stand Poppy either.
Jr. was the first presidential candidate since I've been voting (1976) that I disliked from the get go. Came across as a dimwitted snob and he has done everything since to keep that reputation.
I thought this even just after 9/11 and, of course, believe it wholeheartedly today: Shrub will go down as THE WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES.
BTW, my repuke brother-in-law used to try to provoke me into political arguements by making positive comments about * . But lately he doesn't even mention his name. I think he's come to the sad personal realization that * sucks so bad that no one can defend him anymore. I saw my brother-in-law today and the only thing he mentioned was Arnold and the CA debacle. He actually had nothing good to say about Arnold either.

56. During the 2000 campaign... |
|
...I thought he seemed like a nice guy. I would NOT have voted for him (I couldn't vote at the time), but I did have this impression that he'd be tolerable, inoffensive, more conservative than I would've liked, but maybe the conservative equivalent of Clinton. I figured there wouldn't be anything really threatening abt his presidency and that we could pretty easily kick him out in 2004. In no way did I see him to be the god-awful crook that he is.
I will, however, admit that like Howard Dean, I still think he's a nice person -- as someone on the Gore 2000 campaign noted, he'd be a good neighbor.
As a president though I think he has to rank up there as being one of the worst in history. He's nuts. He's a horrible, horrible, horrible president.

I've chuckled at a dumb joke here or there.
Bush Jr. strikes me as a huge prick, even ignoring the crimes and disaasters of his policies. But even total pricks have a basic humanity that a skillful propagandist can successfully get across, or even totally fabricate.
Note: your poll question does not match your headline. "has" is entirely different than "have ever."

59. If you have your doubts about the Bush |
|
family please go to the Mother Jones website and put My three sons in the search engine. It should bring up a magazine article from 1992. This article, available online, details the crooked dealings of Neil, Jeb and another Bush brother. I am not sure Shrubbie is covered in this article but he may be.
The article details Jeb's dealings with right-wing Cuban terrorists and other less than savory characters.
Neil's thievery in the S&L scandal is also detailed.
Very good article and well worth reading.
