1. I posted about this a few months ago... |
|
need to get my star so i can search the archives :)
Was a presentation made at a summit of some kind in Alberta. A US analyst predicted a $3.00 gallon.
Oil closed over $40 yesterday? And we're heading into peak driving season soon. Scary.

wow, my mom (who lives in ND) told me the other day she heard it was over $3 in CA. I thought she was just crazy and didn't know a thing considering she lives so far away.
Ouch, I thought I was suffering with $1.99/gallon.

22. question about that in NJ |
|
why is it you are barred from law by pumping your own gas? when we were driving through NJ during spring break, I could only come up with these possibilities:
1: people in NJ just won't pay if they pump it themselves 2: law enacted to stop loss of jobs
what gives? i've been curious ever since we stopped on the turnpike

As far as I know, its always been this way. I know NJ and one other state (Nevada maybe) have laws that prohibit pumping your own gas. Im not complaining, I hate having to pump gas especially in the winter or in the rain!

8. Should be a Kerry campaign issue |
|
Vote for Bush and a gallon of regular gas will end up costing $5.00.
Note: Forget the arguments that European countries pay $7.50 per gallon; it doesn't hold water. They import their supply from us, Russia, and the Middle East; therefore, the tariffs they pay jacks up the price.

16. OPEC's swing capacity is pretty tiny - 3% of daily global production |
|
Total demand is just under 80 million barrels a day. OPEC's swing capacity is about 2.4 million barrels, and with China's demand growing relentlessly (it looks like their domestic production peaked last year), it's just not enough to make much of a difference.
That's assuming, of course, that OPEC will see fit to, or indeed is able to further increase production.

I was reading an article earlier about stations in So Calif with prices over $3 for full service. I didn't even know they still had full service stations. here is a link... http://www.dailynews.com/Stories/0,1413,200~20954~2142089,00.html

14. GRRRRRR@ Cali "full" service. |
|
About two weeks ago I pulled into a local Shell station to gas up, and because I was busy with my boss on my cellphone, I pulled up to the "Full Service" pump. After sitting there for several minutes without ANYBODY coming out, I finally gave up, got out of my car, and started the pump myself. I then pulled the squeegie out of the bucket and cleaned my OWN windshield. Just as I'm finishing the windshield, the pump clicks off, and the service attendant FINALLY shows up...to hang the hose back on the pump.
The guy then walks over to me and requests the money for the gas. I told him that I was going inside to pay, and he informed me that "full service customers must pay the attendant". When I asked what "full service" had been provided, he shrugged his shoulders and said that it wasn't his fault that I was impatient. When I went inside to talk to the manager, he stopped me and said "If the attendant touched the pump, it's full service". I did a little quick math...these guys wanted 15 cents a gallon extra over 22 gallons, that makes about three bucks and change in extra profit for hanging up the pump?
I refused to pay. When the guy threatened to call the police, I replied, "You call the police, I'll call the newspaper", and I pulled out my cellphone and started rolling through my phonebook. The managers face turned bright red with rage and he started yelling at me to get the "f*** out" of his store.
So I plopped the money on the counter (at the self-serve rate, though I overpaid by about 20 cents) and left.
I'll never buy Shell gas again.

15. MI, I paid $2.01 when the sign posted $2.08 |
|
I think I felt fortunate. We drove to Florida over Easter and now feel a little fortunate that we saved about $50 in gas money. But these prices suck and are going to have a very corrosive effect on the economy very quickly. It is soaking up disposable income very quickly. People will reduce and shorten their drives. Airline tickets are going to spike, eventually this will affect food and other prices as distribution costs are pushed higher.
And, most unfortunately, an oil crisis will be called and drilling in ANWR will be pushed as a necessary need to reduce oil prices, mark my words.

I heard a few days ago on NPR that SC has the cheapest gas in the nation. Think back a year ago, did any one even in CA pay 1.73 for gas?
It has gone from filling my tank for @ $15 to $25 this past year.
If gas $ suddenly drops this Oct., how many people will even remember that Woodward said * had made the deal with the Saudis?

people won't care that Bush made a deal with the Saudis. All they'll think is, "Bush used diplomacy to bring down the gas prices. He's a great leader". Why the gas prices fell, won't matter, because it won't cost them as much to drive their SUV. Most Americans seem completely unbothered by the Bush-House of Saud connections and friendships.
It's incredible though -- Saudi Arabia sponsors and funds terrorism all over the world, is the origin of most of the hijackers, and yet, a majority of Americans believe that Iraqis were on board the 9/11 flights and Saddam was behind it.
Amazing huh?

26. $2.30 in the CA valley, haven't checked at home yet. |
|
and the valley usually is such a rural farm community that $2.30 for regular is pretty damn high. i'd expect at least $0.20 more on top of that in the SF bay area, and definitely over $3 in san francisco.
if only buses were a real alternative. effing lie is what it is when they call this the land of the free... i have no choice but to drive a car. they can shove their home of the brave up their tailpipe, bastards.
