Protest Bush in Atlanta Monday 5-7 PM
Just received this from the GAforDennisKucinich group e-mail. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend, as I just had surgery on my foot. But hope some other GA DUers will.

Date: Sun, 16 May 2004 03:07:43 -0000

Subject: PROTEST BUSH IN ATLANTA MONDAY 5 - 7 PM--SPREAD THE WORD!

LET US NEVER PERMIT BUSH TO SHOW HIS FACE IN ATLANTA
WITHOUT BEING CONFRONTED!

WHAT: PROTEST AGAINST BUSH during fund-raiser at Buckhead mansion of
Home Depot Chairman and CEO Robert Nardelli.

WHEN: MONDAY, MAY 17, 5 TO 7 PM

WHERE: INTERSECTION OF NORTHSIDE DR./ GARMON RD./ W.GARMON RD. The
estate of Robert Nardelli is near this intersection at 1250 W. Garmon
Rd. Selection of the protest location was a judgment call made after
looking at available parking space on Northside Drive, possible media
attention, and the likely route of Bush and supporters. If we are
told to move our bodies or cars, we will just get as close as
possible to that intersection.

HOW TO GET THERE: CAR POOL OR DRIVE SEPARATELY (NO MARTA)

If you have the time, meet at Candler Park Marta Station parking lot
at 4 pm. We will pile into a few cars and leave promptly at 4:20 (14
miles to the intersection, 25--30 minutes). If you can come after
work and arrive by 6, please drive straight there.

DIRECTIONS: www.mapquest.com for 1250 W. Garmon Rd., Atlanta, GA
30327 OR as follows: North on I 75; take exit 256, right onto Mt.
Paran Rd (.8 mi); left onto Garmon Rd. (.7 mi) to Northside
intersection. We are hoping that I 75 will not be shut down. To make
sure, phone DOT 404-635-6800 on Monday. The alternative will be to
drive straight north on Northside Drive to the Ga rmon intersection
from the Northside Dr./Howell Mill Rd off I 75 just north of I 75/I
85 split. This route takes longer.

POSTERS AND BANNERS: Bring your own poster or banner with your
message (and extras if possible)!!!

MEDIA COVERAGE: The International Action Center and Georgia Peace and
Justice Coalition/ Atlanta will send out press releases so the media
will know we are there. We can be more persuasive in follow-up calls
if we know we will have a crowd. IF POSSIBLE EMAIL ANN MAUNEY
(annmauney555@aol.com) IF YOU KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO THE PROTEST.
ALSO, EMAIL YOUR SUGGESTIONS, CONCERNS, AND/OR QUESTIONS.

Even if we cannot match the 1,000 at the King Center on January 15,
whatever visibility we can muster sends out our message. Movement
demonstrations made Pres. Johnson a prisoner in the White House
before he decided not to run for reelect ion in 1968. Let us do the
same to W!

WE UNDERSTAND YOU MAY HAVE OTHER COMMITMENTS ON MONDAY.

IF YOU CAN FIND THE TIME, JOIN US!

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!

Please forward this to people on your e-mail list.

ANN MAUNEY with Georgia Peace and Justice Coalition/ Atlanta

1. Damn, I'm on the other side of town - logistical nightmare at 5pm
I will try to get there, but I don't get off work until 3:30, so it will be pushing it. Traffic is impossible even when the president* isn't in town. I'll see how many folks I can round up to go, though, and we will try to make it!

2. Home Depot Needs Bush Trimming
Wish I could go. Will be at work then.
I've been trying to think of some great signs for the Home Depot CEO Bush lover to see.

Here's a few:

Home Depot: Stay out the Bushes (courtesy: Jesse Jackson)
Home Depot/Bush - Sad Sex Marriage
Just say NO to Bush Depot

I'm sure that my fellow Atlantans came come up with some better ones.
Any suggestions?

3. Got another ideai for those who can't physically make it to the protest
We need to have a day long silent protest. Drive with your headlights on. Place a sign protesting Bush in your car window. Something! My husband works about 4 blocks from the protest site, so he said he will definitely be at the protest. We also need to flood the local talk radio lines on Monday during the afternoon rush hour. The key to getting on is telling the screener you want to talk about whatever they are talking about, and make yourself sound like you agree with the host (especially if you call the moron Kimmer). Then go straight into - We're protesting President Bush for his complicity in the torture scandal at Abu Ghraib, etc. You can usually get a good mouthful out before they cut you off. I know from experience.

6. The only talk shows I can get during the rush hour are
Kimmer and the idiot Hannity. I will try, though.
