Hume: these numbers are bad, but they should be a lot worse |
|
Wow...Fox is actually talking about Bush polls other than their own.

3. Shrub is at 42 % approval in multiple polls - not much off 38% and |
|
this War and the prison abuse scandal are not even close to playing themselves out.
Give it time.

4. Fox, Gallup and Newsweek (I think) |
|
So the numbers ranged from 48% to 42%.
The idea being pushed now is that it's no longer about the economy, stupid, it's all about Iraq, because the economy is so much better now.

7. But to most people gas prices are part of the economy |
|
and gas prices are at record highs. Other goods like milk are also going up.
So, the average person doesn't see the economy as a positive for Bush.
The average person doesn't understand economists and so what the pundits say about the economy doesn't register.

14. Employment hasn't picked up but inflation has started |
|
Many of the long term unemployed have yet to find jobs. We haven't really had a recovery yet, and now the economy is overheating.

5. And why aren't they worse, Brit? |
|
Could it be because you and your treasonous nest of America-hating neocons at Faux have been puffing the incompetent, coked-up frat boy from Day One (minus 365)?

I was, however, horrified to hear that the prisoner torture is not something we should be upset by--that it is part of any war. Gawd, it makes me want to vomit to hear that kind of stuff even off of FAUX news.

I think the whole "frat boy" excuse is worse, which is new for this war |
|
But you're right...when Faux starts going "Why aren't Bush's poll numbers lower?" you know something is wrong.

11. "As an incumbent in May of an election year, Bush should be doing |
|
much better than behind or tied."
So, instead of "Kerry should be doing a lot better than he is" or "Bush should be doing a lot worse than he is" the point is, Bush kicking ass at this point with the advantages of incumbency and spending all that dough.
This should be the refrain to counter the oft heard Right Wing talking point that "Kerry really should be doing a lot better than being tied or slightly ahead after all the weeks of bad news from Iraq and the prisoner scandal. Kerry's in trouble."
Bush is the one who's in trouble.

13. Faux's panel the other day |
|
admitted that all the money being spent on negative ads, etc., will mean nothing, that this election is going to hinge on events in Iraq, something that the White House has absolutely no control over.
