If Arnold Schwarzenegger runs for president...
Although it would take a constitutional amendment, if Arnold is ever able to make a run for president, say in 2008 or 2012, he's going to be hard to beat.

But a politically astute friend of mine had an idea about who we should run against him if he ever gets so uppity.

Get this: Bruce Springsteen. Yes, I'm serious.

He's a solid, trustworthy Democrat with a real connection to the working class of America, and he would kick the SHIT out of Arnold Schwarzenegger. They wanna play tough guy, fine, we'll play tough guy. We'll give em The Boss.

Born in the USA. Hell yeah.

1. Great idea
Now do you have a good candidate to run against Arnold for governor of California?

3. I second that!
Springsteen rocks! (Eh, no pun intended...)

He was a good singer... and has more talent than Schwarzzie does. Has a bigger brain too. Didn't need to cheat with steroids to do that... steroid users have no brains anyway, which reminds me how Schwarzzie has such a nice package, but let's not go there right now, thank you Bartcop.

16. I think it may pass, but
it may have a long lead time so it can't benefit one person.

Maybe something like, "20 years after the passig of this amendment, a naturalized citizen may be president."

6. Ronnie Reagan tried to use Bruce, and his agent said "F.O"...
...apparently Reagan's people thought "Born In The USA" would make a mighty fine soundtrack for the Gipper's presidency.

http://www.blueskypie.com/nonfictionbycategory/popularculture/popculturebooks/bornusa.asp

"...six days earlier, after attending a Springsteen concert, conservative columnist George Will had written a glowing review that echoed dominant Republican campaign themes. "I have not got a clue about Springsteen's politics, if any," Will wrote, "but flags get waved at his concerts while he sings songs about hard times. He is no whiner, and the recitation of closed factories and other problems always seems punctuated by a grand, cheerful, affirmation: 'Born in the U.S.A.!'"

The office of presidential handler Michael Deaver contacted Springsteen's promoter, who relayed the request to appear with Reagan. Springsteen's agent declined on behalf of his client, saying he was unavailable for any outside appearances during his tour. Springsteen's people thought that was the end of the matter--until Reagan invoked Springsteen anyway. The President's press aide could not immediately tell reporters what Reagan's favorite Springsteen song was, although the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner reported an aide as saying that Reagan listened to Springsteen's records all the time."

8. Reagan's would have done well to actually listen to the lyrics.
They might not have been so enamored of the song after actually hearing what it says.

7. Arnold winning would be a Pyrrhic victory for the republicans
The religious right would never vote with them again. The fundies would start voting for their own, and with 20% of the population (40% of the conservatives) throwing their vote away every year the political landscape would take a dramatic shift to the left.

10. Springsteen was approached about the NJ Senate Seat. He said NO.
Edited on Sun May-16-04 06:03 PM by mouse7
The seat that Lautenberg had to un-retire to run in the special election for.

Springsteen was very nice, said he appreciated the compliment, but there is no way in the world he would ever consider himself qualified to run for a major public office. Unlike Dumbya, Springsteen realizes that an office holder needs to be very familiar with a certain body of knowledge to have a remote chance of being an effective leader.

11. You know that's not really fair

DUmbya is very familiar with a body of knowledge that has enabled him to run for office and be elected:

Dirty Politics

He was a disciple of Lee Atwater - his father's (and Reagans) operative.

21. But that was to run as an independent against a Democrat
I wonder if he would have a different attitude about running as a Dem? We'll have to draft him for that NJ Senate seat someday!

For two reasons:

1. Americans seem willing to elect a novelty candidate to the Governor's seat, but Presidents are expected to be a little more... traditional. Bush is an exception to that rule, but he ties into the second reason.

2. After Bush Jr., Americans will be less willing to vote for a smiling idiot. I think alot of people will want intelligence and stability in the future.

15. I wouldn't vote for either of them.
Has the Presidency become such a joke that any celebrity can run for it regardless of qualifications? I will definitely leave the country if the Presidency turns into American Idol.

18. Evidently the fifth largest economy in the world has become that
joke regardless of qualifications, California. As California goes so goes the nation. I would prefer Jerry Springer. At least he has a brain.

17. I have always said we need a rock star to get the Schwollenpecker
out of our Government in California. Only an entertainer can beat an entertainer. My point is that if our voters are so shallow that they vote for personality, then they need someone who can put on great concerts. El Groper can't do that. Dumping him in California, hopefully, will keep him out of the Oval Office.

Not sure if that is a PNAC WORLD leader. or one of the many world leaders.

With Bush father in cohoots with the nazis and Arnold's father in cohoots with the nazis, I would say this probably would not be good for this country
