Is this illegal? When I went to the polls to vote in the primaries 4/27
in Pennsylvania, I couldn't believe what happened. This was my first time voting since I moved to Pa from Maryland.
As I signed in, I noticed two piles of cards, one marked Democrat, one marked Republican, with a different color for each party. After I signed my name, the volunteer tried to hand a card to me.... a 'Republican' card. I said, "No, I'm a Democrat". The three people standing there looked at me in astonishment. One of them, a woman, yells across the room to a guy next to the voting booth, "Hey, she's a DEMOCRAT", in a tone that implied, Gee, I thought such creatures were extinct.
I still immensely enjoyed pulling those switches for Howard Dean, let me tell you, the ONLY thing I will enjoy this election year, I fear.
But is it LEGAL for such behaviors? Ethical, certainly not, but what else should I expect from these creatures, ha!
In over a quarter of a century in voting in Maryland, I never had to pick up a card identifying my party by color (visible across a room), and by name. The voting machines in our district are rather old; I haven't seen any like that in many years in Maryland. But even back then, I didn't get 'labelled'.
Hey, when I go to vote in the fall, I'm going to wear a HUGE sign that says "Democrat and Damn Proud" or something to that effect. Any ideas? Maybe I should get a Tshirt made. I heard that this district was very Republican, but this is disgusting to me!

1. Not illegal, but highly repugnant and typically republican.
What assholes.

4. A lot of states don't have the party primaries on the same day.
By showing up at the polls you're declaring your party affiliation.

7. Wearing a shirt with your
party affiliation to vote in at the polls it might be considered campaigning at the polls and that's a no-no. You can't campaign within something like a 100 feet from the polling place.

9. Polls should always be free of that kind of nonsense
A few years ago in the very liberal Mission
district of San Francisco a poll worker
sneered at me when I told him I was a Democrat
and then proceeded to fawn over the next person
in line who was Green. I'm still pissed at myself
for not taking his name and reporting him.
That sort of behavior cannot be legal.
