We should be better than this. What happened to Nick Berg was sick and disgusting, but this is just a bad. . .We should be better than this.

Spc. Charles Graner of the 372nd Military Police Company smiles as he poses by the body of Manadel al-Jamadi, an Iraqi who died in U.S. custody at Abu Ghraib prison.

Spc. Sabrina Harmon, also of the 372nd Military Police Company, gives a thumbs-up sign by the body of Iraqi detainee Manadel al-Jamadi.

Soldiers Shown Giving Thumbs Up Sign
By Body of Dead Iraqi Prisoner

By Brian Ross

May 19, 2004— ABCNEWS has obtained two new photos taken at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq showing Spc. Charles Graner and Spc. Sabrina Harmon posing over the body of a detainee who was allegedly beaten to death by CIA or civilian interrogators in the prison's showers. The detainee's name was Manadel al-Jamadi.

According to testimony from Spc. Jason Kenner, obtained by ABCNEWS, the man was brought to the prison by U.S. Navy Seals in good health. Kenner said he saw extensive bruising on the detainee's body when he was brought out of the showers, dead.

Kenner says the body was packed in ice during a "battle" between CIA and military interrogators over who should dispose of the body.

He is dead. He will never be humiliated by anything ever again and he was probably just an innocent civilian who knew nothing. Does the picture make you proud of your country?

BS, random digital photos don't just magically burn themselves to CD-ROM. Who burned these CDs? Why? When? So many questions that will never be answered.

Edited on Wed May-19-04 07:24 PM by nomaco-10
I'm very interested to know how it is that so many pictures and even videos came to be uncovered.
Nearly 2,000 photos! Did these people take photos all day and if so, over what period of time? How many people are involved in the actual taking of all these digital photos? Did these morons from the 372 take them to remind themselves of what a swell time they had in Iraq and could reminisce about the good old days? How did Seymour Hearsh get them? So many questions.

I don't stay in here all the time, I check in every couple of days and the board seems to move so fast here lately, it's hard to keep up. Perhaps someone will see our posts and be kind enough to post a couple of links.

But tv news and newspapers have the option of showing viewers things or not.

Until recently, the news media has mostly been avoiding showing any gruesome photos. There were digital cameras at the start of the war, as well, but editors can decide which photos to print.

If we want to be better than this then we need to deal with it like members of the world. Not like renegade gangsters.
Most of us are not animals. Most of us are horrified by this. We have some monsters in our midst and we need to not allow them to be accepted.
Bush and his beasts have brought shame upon all of us and the measure of our collective humanity will be shown by how we deal with it.

Sharon has brought the same shame upon Israel. We were once a proud people. A people that survived slavery, oppression and genocide. Survived Egyptians, Romans and Nazis.
We did not find joy in the destruction of our oppressors, we always preached mercy and compassion for everyone. Sharon and Likud have made us no better than those things we hated no better than the Egyptians, Romans or Nazis.

Yes I am American and Jewish and I am ashamed.

23. not the point -- americans have a history
of committing atrocities and viewing them -- re:indian wars, africans, phillipinos, latin america, etc. and then forgetting that we do such things.
we've done it again in iraq. we've all gone to a lynching -- picnic baskets in hand and watched. we knew we were attacking, bombing maiming people who were not as strong as us -- and worse who had not done anything to us.

Will those horrible pictures cause Rep. Steve King (R-IA) to retract his remark that this is like a "hazing?"

I don't want Steve King in Congress next term.

He is running against Joyce Shulte. and I gave her $50.

http://www.joyceschulte.net/content/about/

We shouldn't have anyone in Congress next term who belittled this horrible treatment.

Everyone who caused this should be punished with prison, and every politician who belittled it should be voted out.

Yeah, we sure are better. We really "show respect for human life" when we give the thumbs up over a guy who was beaten to death. This sure makes the chimps words to Isreal about showing restraint sure look pathetic. Where was your restraint dumbass when you signed your secret order for torture and humiliation?

Are we at the beginning of the drip, drip, drip or will the flood gates open?

Edited on Wed May-19-04 06:34 PM by Miss Authoritiva
I could be wrong, but I think the gesture that Graner is making with his left hand (the upper hand in the photo making a gesture similar to our American "okay" sign) means something like "you're mother was a whore."

Anybody know for sure what the gesture means?

I find this photo of Ms. Sabrina Harmon much more damning than all others in that she is such a wholesome appearing and beautiful "All American" girl. When I saw these pictures, I was prompted to look up "necrophilia" in the dictionary. I found this definition, "an erotic attraction to corpses." OK, maybe this is not "necrophilia" exactly, but to kill someone and then get your face in his and smile seems a little weird.

They just look too happy to be posing with a corpse.
