"Dean is a threat to Democratic Party" - cartoon
Edited on Mon Aug-11-03 04:31 PM by protect freedom impe
HEE HEE HEE

I about busted my gut laughing so hard when I
first saw this.

...spineless DEMs in Congress are the REAL threat to the
Democratic Party.

With their Bush enabling ways they have allowed
Bush to trash the US Constitution,
let Bush steal the election,
let Bush start an illegalimmoral war based on LIES

and who stood up against Bush ?

not Lieberman.
not Kerry
not Gepthard

ONLY a few Patriots like DEAN.

2. Questions...If Dean thought it was an illegal war, then why
didn't he join Kucinich and others in their legal efforts to stop the war?

Why did he support the Biden-Lugar version of the Iraq resolution?

Why didn't he speak at ONE antiwar rally?

6. Heh we arent talking about Kerry
Kucinich really stood up in my opinion, he's been fighting for us folks really, he voted against the illegal and wrong patriot act, he united 112 democrat representives to vote against the war, and has many great deeds he has done that we dont know about, and recently leading the charge for preservation of medicare and yesterday told the truth about what is going on in California. This is why I support the guy, he's a proven fighter and he fights for all of us, and he is a sucess story.

Point to me ONE progressive Democratic value that Dean FOUGHT FOR in the 11 years while he was governor of Vermont. I mean actually fought for against the GOP and expended himself in some way.

Dean just put on his "fighting" progressive Democrat persona in January 2003. Prior to that he was the DLC poster boy who didn't like to fight with the GOP so he aligned with them in the center and usually against the progressive Democrats there.

How nuch of Dean's spine did he expend mocking Marian Wright Edelman?

5. Also...Thanks to Gephardt, Kerry and Clinton's efforts
Bush was PREVENTED from getting the blank check he wanted. He wanted to bypass the UN, support for invading Iran and Syria, and no more weapons inspections.

Sorry that you can't understand that some lawmakers are stuck negotiating their votes with the White House, just to make sure that he doesn't get all he wants.

15. Really. I could swear that Powell
is in some trouble today for overstating the case in front of the UN.

It also seems that Blix's time spent with his UN inspection team will come back to bite Bush in the ass, too.

Revising history is not smart or practical.

Just like I missed the votes in congress against the war by Kerry, Lieberman, Edwards and Gephardt.

My heart bleeds for Powell's alleged troubles, just as it does, for the 4 dwarves electoral problems with their cowardly votes.

Edited on Mon Aug-11-03 05:15 PM by blm
BushInc planned to dissolve it completely by rendering it absolutely irrelevant. Have you forgotten the media push to label the UN irrelevant at that time? Hell, all those damn polls everyday pushing that idea?

If Bush had his way, we would be IN Iran and Syria today.Mock it all you want, but, if the price to prevent that from happening and preserving the UN was YOUR vote, I'd bet that you would pay that price.

23. Think clearly.
Edited on Mon Aug-11-03 05:28 PM by poskonig
I would not allow Bush to steamroll anything he wants through the Congress. In addition, I would work a full court press in the media to get our point of view across. Bush did that with the taxes, he did it with Iraq, and the Democrats rolled over each time and played dead. The Democrats must show some spine if they are to survive politically. When the public sees Republicans AND Democrats supporting a war (think of Gephardt, shoulder-to-shoulder with Bush, for example), of course it is going to fall in line.

By the way, the UN *is* completely irrevelant. We do not see it in Iraq today -- not even the UN weapons inspectors that were so important. Nor did Bush request a resolution to go into Iraq. If this is Kerry's flimsy reason for supporting Bush, and his later, half-hearted criticism of our presence in Iraq, that campaign is in worse trouble than I initially surmised.

you refuse to see it without your cloud thick with bias. What a shame.

FYI, the UN is being begged to go into Iraq and help the US fix things. Bushies are trying to figure out how to do so without losing face.

"If Bush had his way, we would be IN Iran and Syria today."

Our military cannot handle Iran and Syria. That is the ONLY reason why we are not in Iran or Syria.

If Bush wanted to invade Iran or Syria he would crank up the propaganda machine and the Democrats would roll over again.

Period.

28. And you think if Bush decides to go into Syria
our "Democratic" senators are going to not sign a new resolution.

You actually Joe Lieberman is not going to support an invasion of Syria?

You actually think the others won't roll over, fall in line and sign a new resolution giving Bush anything he wants? All Bush has to do is decide he wants to do it and start up his propaganda machine and the crippled Democratic leadership will roll right over.

Watch and see.

The bill would have passed without thier vote anyway. wher the other one giving full power to the president probably wouldnt have. The congress certainly lost its mind back then but i dont for a second think they were ready to just vote for war outright.

If NO Dem legislator is willing to negotiate for the better deal then they are derelict of duty. Certain ones are stuck in that role, given their status or expertise.

Just like Petain, Laval, Quisling, and Vlasov wanted to negotiate with the Nazis and "preserve the process". Those pesky people in the resistance just didn't understand that it was necessary to collaborate.

35. Straw men littering the countryside.
Yes! I would have much preferred that no Democrat would "negotiate" with him and all the Democrats would have denounced his aggression.

Bush doesn't give a rip about the UN, as shown by his invasion of Iraq despite UN opposition. Powell in the UN was purely for domestic consumption to show that he was being "reasonable". He will have no qualms about invading Syria or Iran if it serves his and his cronies purposes. The UN would not have "dissolved" if Kerry, Lieberman, Gephardt and Edwards had voted against the war.

You're grasping at straws.

The Democrats who voted FOR the invasion did so for reasons of political expediency. Except for Lieberman who, at least, is honest about his vote. Now they are paying a well deserved price for it.

He wanted it to appear more bipartisan, so the opportunity to negotiate was there.

You are being unrealistic about a senator or congressman's duty to negotiate. YOU would prefer dereliction of duty for SHOW, but, with no positive result.

36. Then explain why Gephardt never consulted the Dem leaders
Before he joined Bush for the Rose Garden ceremony? That was not negotiation. At best it was a tactical blunder, but more likely it was a craven attempt to not appear "unpatriotic" because of how it would impact his presidential aspirations.

12. Rob Rogers - great Pittsburgh editorial cartoonist
Often featured in Newsweek. Highlight of the day for me to turn to the editorial page and see a Rogers or his colleague Tim Menee's cartoons. They have been having great fun skewering Chimpy and the gang from day one. I loved this one last week when I saw it. I'm sure the Dean campaign and the DLC and DNC have seen it.
