Why do they twist Kerry's words so much? (e.g. Strategic Petroleum Reserve |
|
In recent days I've been hearing and reading media commentators say that Kerry wants to release reserves from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to ease prices. NO HE DOES NOT - YOU MANIPULATIVE ASSHOLES!
Here is what he does say: I would manage the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to Protect our Security without Driving Up Prices. The U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve is the largest stockpile of government-owned emergency crude oil in the world. Established in the aftermath of the 1973-74 oil embargo, the SPR provides the President with a powerful response option should a disruption in commercial oil supplies threaten the U.S. economy. It also allows the United States to meet part of its obligation to maintain emergency oil stocks, and provides a national defense fuel reserve. Unfortunately, the Bush Administration has put the SPR fill program on automatic pilot without regard to the short-term effect on the US market. The program needs better management – diverting oil from the market to fill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve at a time of exceptional tightness in oil markets as Bush has done, and continues to do, does not make sense today. Kerry would temporarily suspend filling SPR until oil prices return to normal levels.

5. And The Others Dems Should've Kept Their Traps Shut On This One |

IMO.
Better alternative?
Maybe, Bush should finally help America move foward and towards Energy Independance by breaking our reliance on fossil fuel.
If we put an aggressive alternative energy plan into place, it might have an effect on the short term.

but I don't think the calls for depleting the reserves are serious, they're just scoring some points against Bush, which I think they very well should. Especially given Bush's rhetoric in 2000, I love seeing them throw that in his face.

Back in the 70's in Oklahoma, following the oil crisis. There was an oil boom. Oklahoma was THE place to come to make quick money in the "oil patch". Driving west on I-40 I remember seeing punch sites for miles and miles. And they were hitting too. There are few to no wells there now. They were capped, and I know of some places where housing editions for some of the Native American Nations were built over these oil sites. So I wonder, are these capped wells part of the oil reserve? Would we have to screw over the Indians again?
