The torture pics have 100 percent lost us the war of hearts/minds..

The sooner we accept this, the sooner we can move toward restoring our tarnished international image, starting with giving this adminstration the boot. (on edit) The mellower Republicans can save us all a lot of time by reading the writing on the wall.

1. That's why I say the war is over - for us at least
Only the UN can now win the peace in Iraq. Nothing we do will ever have any legitimacy with the Iraqi people.

8. Yeah, but -- right or wrong -- it dealt a major blow to US
credibility, overseas support, and domestic support. The men on the ground (and on the air and at sea) won the battle but the war was lost, or beginning to slide that way.

5. US international reputation is screwed
...for a long time.

Kerry will have a tough road ahead to restore America's reputation.

The world is watching this election campaign, and if Canada is anything to go by, not feeling very confident seeing that Bush's poll numbers are still high.

If he gets (s)elected again, either by stealing the votes or by a legitimate margin, America can kiss what's left of its international reputation goodbye. The world's contempt for a dishonest, thieving Resident (in the first case) or stupid population (in the second) will know no bounds.

Vote Dem!

7. I think that's why..
electing Kerry is really the only way to even begin to restore our international standing.

Can you imagine what the reaction will be if Bush is re-elected? That will be seen as an endorsement of the corrupt policies. It isn't like this is the 1970s and we can just pretend we don't know what's happening.

10. Two-terms of Kerry will not be enough to undo the damage
The harm that this war has caused to the US in the Middle East and in the world will take generations to fix, if ever.

Bush's blunder is of historical proportions. There is nothing in our history that comes close to it in its lasting effects, not even the Civil War.

6. I don't think we were ever winning the battle
For hearts and minds, but the Abu Ghraib scandal ensured that the battle was irretrievably lost.

It's worse though. We've lost the hearts and minds of an entire generation of Muslims because of those photos. We've also damaged our standing in the eyes of our friends.

The war in Iraq has been nothing but bad for the United States. It's time to withdraw with all possible haste.

9. We lost the war, and deservedly so!
Now we must get our troops home as fast as possible. We should also purge the military of all those Freepers and sadistic assholes that have brought shame to the uniform, starting with General Meyers.
