What it means is that if there was not enough blood as a real execution, then the beheading was done after he were dead.

In that likelyhood then, the pre-beheading parts of the tape are from his interrogation by whomever held him. We know US forces were part of that detention. With the Chalabi raid, we see now a pattern of the US blaiming Iraqis for their actions, even though US forces are involved and obviously giving direction for everything that goes on in the country.

It doesn't mean anything for certain, but it paints the picture that Berg was murdered by the captors that originally detained him.

In summary he was never let go. We know about the standard interrogation tactics utilized. If berg had ben given or even seen any of these, he was a dangerously devistating witness against the us who was about to return during the midst of the scandal.

He HAD to be silenced in a desparate attempt to save the war.
