What then, my friends?
It seems ridiculous to even consider this, as my heart and soul are definitely not in it. However, a friend's posting at another board has me pondering this. I'm sure before it would actually ever happen, hellfire and brimstone of one apocalyptic vision or another will come to pass first.

However, what would the pubs actually do in 2008 if by some inexplicable reason, other than directly tampering with votes, declaing martial law or using Diebold to manipulate the votes, they did win in November?

We would never directly give the reins to Cheney; the rest of the current regime members have been outed in one form or another as slimeballs, DeLay has a reputation as being a scuzz, so who would the religious and totalitarian right bring to the front as their candidate?

Of course, regardless of whether the skunk in charge is re-selected or not, they will, of course, still have to present a candidate, so who will it be? I'm curious to hear the opinions of others who might be contemplating this topic.

2. By 2008 it would be Jeb's Turn
if they bother with elections and the Constitution by that point.

W has expressed a desire to be dictator. Resident-for-life?
They might try to keep up appearances and repeal that pesky Constitutional amendment so shrubbie can be reselected as many
times as the Diebold machines can deliver to him.

They had "elections" like that in places like Iraq and the Soviet Union
for years.

4. It might already be over...
but I think we've won this one. In spite of the administrations efforts of biblical proportions they are toast. Places like DU and blogs all over the world have informed and empowered the electorate. Thank you Howard Dean. Mr. Jefferson would be proud of all of you. I believe we will have an election and the Democratic Candidate will win. The problem is I also believe that Bush & Co. are playing the long game. '08 is what I'm trying to figure out. Yes, the Democrats need to do some "post war planning". They need to address Dean and Nader, not the men, their issues. I think this country is just about ready to govern itself.

6. 22nd Amendment
I've heard on some RW sites they are saying that we should not have elections during time of war---in other words, the want the 22nd amendment repealed. They seem not to be aware that Repubs pushed the 22nd amendment because of FDR. Now it's come back to bite them in the ass. Ha ha ha.

3. Lindsey Graham
IMHO they are priming that pump at this time and we may not have to wait until 2008.

5. Don't get ahead,
We have to think about 2006 first. Taking and maintaining a Democratic-led congress is key.

8. The days of Bush are coming to an end
And Jebbie will be denied his chance to cycle through and loot himself an inheritance because big brother went in and made a mess of it.

What can the Republicans do but swing back towards the middle now? They have gone as far right as they can go, and it has been a disaster all around. I think this is what some of the moderates are trying to tell them right now.

In any case, I agree with the poster who says they are toast, at least for now.

9. The folks at (not so) Free Republic
Have already begun planning election strategies for Rice, Frist, Herman Cain, and Jeb Bush in '08. Amazingly, they have not considered any of the cons these candidates would bring their movement (Jeb's dysfunctional family and Rice's closet pro-choice sentiments). When the time comes, I'll bet ol' Dick will take the reins and we'll all become Haliburton employees.
