Olympics
How does everyone think our athletes will be treated at Athens olympics? What effect do you think it will have, if any, on 2004 election?

1. Unmitigated disaster?

They're not ready. (Greece)
Not gonna be ready.
I imagine our athletes will be shunned, unless they can distance themselves from our government.
They have already been told not to wear American emblems on their street clothes, and not to be too loud in their cheering.
Greece should cancel and send us the bill, except we're broke...in more ways than one.

3. I am so sick and tired
of people saying the Olympics will not be ready.

Just because we Greeks run on a different timeline then "stick up their ass" American culture, people see them as a failure. They will get done, they will be fine...and does it really matter because in the end the Olympics are back in the country that invented them - so anything they do will be fine.

I wouldn't be surprised thought if Americans get booed at in general.

7. People always say
the games won't be ready no matter who hosts them. I think that's one of the spectator sports.

4. Hi Alabama Democrat
I'm in Alabama too. Are we the only two dems in the state? Do you think when some of these RWers see how we are hated by the rest of the world they will have second thoughts? Or do you think they're hopeless?

12. I;m part way between
Tuscaloosa and B'ham. I know about six dems--add them to the ones you know and we might have an actual MOVEMENT on our hands!! Think so?

14. Start a club
We just did.
South Baldwin (Co.) Democrats.
Got over 30 members now.
They're coming out of the woodwork and are greatly relieved to find like-minded souls.

2. They'll be booed unmercifully...
especially after they run around the stadium as if they own the place - much like they did in Seole and Los Angeles. Be prepared to witness the apalling behavior of the USA/NBA professional Basketball team members. Then there's the doped up track team who will no doubt act like assholes after blowing away the competition in the 400m relay.

8. Who knows how it will effect the election.
Has the Olympics ever effected the outcome of an election?

9. What I mean is....
Will people REALIZE there's a reason why the world hates us, or will it make them more stubbornly pro shrub.

11. Pro shrubbers will be just as pro, if not more so.
I honestly think Bush* is spending millions on TV to preach to the choir.

13. I agree with Trof...
in that pro-bushites will be even more convinced that the world hates us "for our freedom."

15. there will be protests, no doubt
from many other countries. The US cannot control this in the usual fascist, bullying manor, I believe.

There may even be protests from some of our own athletes.

It will not be pleasant at all, imo, for our teams.
