Nader says Edwards, Gephardt would be good Kerry running mates
Edited on Sun May-23-04 04:10 PM by JI7
<BOSTON - Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader said Sunday he had advised John Kerry to choose North Carolina Sen. John Edwards or Missouri Rep. Dick Gephardt as his running mate on the Democratic ticket.

Kerry won't discuss whom he is considering for vice president, but his advisers have been examining Edwards and Gephardt, two of Kerry's rivals from the Democratic primaries.

"They're very careful," Nader said on ABC's "This Week." "They're not going to cause him any embarrassment. And they do bring an additional voter support for him."

While others debated Kerry's choice of running mate Sunday, the Massachusetts senator watched the Boston Red Sox play the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park.>

based on what i have seen nader is probably right on both guys bringing additional support. they both would bring more conservative leaning and male supporters who have been hurt economically. and much of this support they can bring is in swing states.

1. I suspect that Kerry will now
summarily rule those choices out simply based on Ralphie's preferences.

4. if nader is so concerned about kerry's running mate,
why the hell doesn't he show his support by dropping out?
like he's going to "advise" Kerry to pick someone who could really help him!
what a dick!

5. Why not both?
John Edwards as VP because of his youth, enthusiasm, "TV-Q" and elect-ability after Kerry and Gephart as the announced next Secretary of Labor.

6. sounds good to me
but i would be happy with both as vp choices. but edwards has an advantage as he is more likely to run when kerry's term is over and can continue pushing many of kerry's long term agendas such as on environment.

8. If Nader is so against the war...why would he recommend
Edwards or Gephardt? Why not Clark or Dean...who were against the war? Me thinks he is following the corp/media meme.

10. because a vote for iwr
did not mean a vote for the way bush has done things. he knows the men and what they have done in their lives. and he knows they would not have done as bush did.

11. No No No Gep!!

Why do they keep floating that wet balloon?
How many people in America are begging for Gephardt to be Vice President? He had his turn and he was lack luster at best.

If we wanted average or below we would not be fighting so hard for the Democrats to get elected.
I am tired of average people when we have Super Stars in our party...Give me Clark, Edwards, Dean anybody but Gephardt!

Tell Nader to go and stick his opinions where the sun don't shine!

12. Maybe Ralph will have the right to give such advice when he registers
Edited on Sun May-23-04 05:22 PM by demo@midlife
as a DEMOCRAT!

I might agree on the advice about Edwards, however, but NOT GEPHART!! I admire Gephart greatly, but he wouldn't bring what Edwards or CLARK would bring in - the votes! Plus I'd prefer to see Edw. or Clark as president, if need be, than Gephart.

And I do disagree with this idea, that Edwards or Gephart "both would bring more conservative leaning and male supporters who have been hurt economically..."

CLARK has had some conservative leaning in the past, and with people so fearful about terrorism ("terror") nowdays, it seems he brings the most experience in foreign policy. Kerry needs someone with strength in that area, and someone who can help straighten out the confusion of those who still see an Al Qaeda connection with Iraq where there was none.

Nader may not be thinking of foreign policy at all because that's not HIS strength either. On the subject of political advice, I don't think Nader is very qualified, if he isn't savvy enough to stay out of another race after the effect he had on 2000. Who knows - perhaps he agreed to drop out of the race if Kerry agrees with one of his VP picks.

Anyway, since Ralph is accepting $ from some known rethugs, why should we trust him? Because as far as being disingenuous, I don't see "a dime's worth of difference" between Nader and the rethugs!
