Why did Zinni go so soft on the president? |
|
It's the president's fucking fault! He has the power, makes the decisions, and is responsible!

12. exactly, why waste his time with the actor that reads the script? |
|
He said it was the "Pentagon" - specifically the "civilian" Pentagon - which means Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Cambone, Feith.

Bush has no power. He makes no decisions. He is a titular president only. In fact, I'd have to say he is one of the weakest presidents in history.
The power in this administration resides in the Vice President's office. Zinni was right. Rummy, Wolfie, Scooter, Elliot, et al. have to go. That being said, the best way to accomplish that aim is to vote Bush out in November.

If you look at previous presidents, their cabinet members have not been out in front a lot. They were not that high profile. During Clinton's administration, other than him, I have seen VP Gore, sometimes the Secretary of State, and Attorney General Janet Reno. Even they did not get so much coverage as the current group of boobs.
Now, you would have to live under a rock to not know who the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Advisor and the President's political advisors are. Because they are out there on the news propping Bush up because he is obviously not in charge.

8. Cheney is de facto Prime Minister. |

Bush is merely there to pray and campaign.

...he is the commander in chief with troops in harm's way?
...or because Zinni knows the people will make that conclusion themselves?
Or both?

He specifically refuted the "don't raise objections when we're at war" thing. As I said earlier, I think he realizes that Bush is impotent and irrelevant here. It's Cheney, Rummy, Feith, Wolfie, et al. who are the problem.

9. But Bush is the one to blame and Zinni should have blamed him |
|
It is unacceptable to blame the underlyings who don't have the constitutional power as Bush does.

11. Zinni is a general. He was addressing the military issues. |
|
Bush is commander in chief, it's true. But Zinni was being specific. Bush has constitutional powers, it's true. But he exercises them only at the command of Cheney, et al.

7. I know what you two are saying |
|
But the PROBLEM is that Bush is taking any old advice 2 or 3 of his closest advisors give him. He doesn't educate himself, consider opposing opinions, and make intelligent decisions. He's not doing his job. Its HIS FAULT this has happened.
He is to blame because he rejected sound advice from people like Zinni.

10. I doubt that advice ever got to him. |
|
But, I agree; Bush is ultimately responsible and should pay the price at the ballot box.
