What does the Democratic Party stand for?
With the campaign in full swing perhaps we need to remind ourselves what the Democratic Party stands for. Rather than let Rove or Lieberman define it for us state what you believe are the best points about the Democrats and what they should stand up and crow about.

4. I am looking for what We The People think the party stands for
Not me the Az. And why would you assume I know it all? I am not even convinced I know anything.

3. We stand for community
We stand for:

Jobs that don't enslave us

Healthcare as a right and not a privilege

Reproductive choices

Educating our children because we care about the future

Clean water to swim, fish and drink

We stand for the downtrodden, the drug addicted, the jobless, the mentally ill...because we actually believe that our duty as members of humanity is to care for them.

In most cases we stand for Peace because in constant war you can not make progress

We aren't the lone wolves...we understand that together we can prosper.

5. People first Capital second
We put people at the top of the food chain and material goods second. Not to say capitalism isn't important but people have to be the top priority. That means social issues trump economic ones and it usually means if we treat our social ills correctly we usually don't have economic problems.

7. A government of, by, and for the people.
In contrast, the republican party stands for a government of, by, and for the corporations.

10. I'm a Democrat. I know what I stand for.
I know what a lot of other Democrats stand for - some I agree with, some I don't. So it goes.

But the party itself? I'm not sure it even knows.

12. For starters, we believe in both individual rights AND "the common good"
We support the right of citizens to question their government

And we believe in supporting and continuing the public schools

We believe in, and depend upon, an educated electorate

Money and wealth are not our highest value

We support openness in government and do not practice cronysim

We avoid using underhanded and unlawful tactics in political campaigns

(Just look at what the present administration has been doing, and it's likely that we stand for the opposite)
