How did Colin Quinn ever had a comedy job? |
|
Even before I knew his political biases, I always thought he was horrible. He's neither glib, or witty, nor quick with words, nor good at relating stories, or funny when talking shit. He can't make funny faces, or do deadpan, or be a smart ass like Dangerfield, or even spout out ethnic/gender jokes that, before that pang of guilt, make you laugh.
I mean, he just seems to have to talent at all. How did he EVER get a job doing comedy?

2. My guess, he's gotta know somebody |
|
Or then again, maybe someone in a high place thinks humorless loud-mouthed working-class Irish Americans are "edgy" and "dangerous". Which I guess some of them are, but probably not in a comedic kind of way.

13. He and Leary and Mario Cataldi and what's-her-name who went to the same |
|
HS as Bobby Boucher, the Water Boy, all went to that arts college in Boston together. They all know each other.

that love his demagoguery, because it attempts to legitimize their moranic bigotry and jingoism.

6. Is that literally true? Why was he doing the news on SNL? |
|
That was somewhat apolitical. I don't think anyone found him funny there...

10. Miller was horrible. Loves to laugh at his own jokes. Blecccch! |
|
When he came on the show is about when I started not watching. I could NEVER stand Miller even before I knew he was a complete ass.

9. I could go to any comedy club |
|
around the country and find someone funnier that he is. I watch the guy and keep waiting and waiting for the big payoff, for when it gets comedic. I don't expect everyone to be in Robin Williams universe. That guys up there all by himself. But Quinn is totally devoid of doing anything other than reading the teleprompter. I'd compare CQ to drinking near-beer. It's supposed to look like beer, but it really isn't.

11. Worst comic timing in the history of comedy |

And for someone who dies regularly on stage, his bomb control is among the worst I've seen.

12. Because our standards of comedy are at a new low. |
|
I mean, really, is there anything funny anymore? Half the skits on SNL have a shit/piss/fart/puke punchline. How difficult can it be for a dumbass to fit into that paradigm?
Really, the knucklehead is a footnote. Sidekick on "Remote Control" (remember when MTV showed music videos)? His film career can be downloaded without the player saying "buffering" even once. He's a goob! But in a nation of slackers, what else can you expect?

Sorry, I'm in the Beavis and Butthead generation. What is this "music video" you speak of?

15. This thread has an unusually high ratio... |
|
of perceptive, insightful, and funny posts, which just goes to prove the assertion of a few of you guys that it really wouldn't be too terribly hard to find a goodly number of people who are a great deal funnier than Colin Quinn.
Nice work people!
And Colin, if you're reading this thread, I'm sorry, but you really do suck.
