Two of the most articulate liberal voices "trashed" by a guy who's so incoherent he makes George Bush look like Daniel Webster?
Is that remotely possible? I did not see the show (crap!) but I can't believe that.

One got the sense that they are all friends, so they were not too harsh with Colin, but F&J certainly had the upperhand.
The funniest part of the show though was the red state vs. blue state skit.

other than that, the show was basically a basketball game between the American Men's Olympic Basketball team and Slovenia's Men's Diving team.

no one really looked great last night.
There were points sitting there to be made by the Air America folks and they really didnt. None of them were very quick on their feet and they didnt seem to be prepared.
Janeane seemed to only want to talk about conspiracy.
Colin made some basic points, and the reason why he looked good was because no one did that great of a job refuting them.

Colin got Andy Rooney's statement wrong. Colin claimed Andy said the prison torture was worse than 9/11. Andy never said that. He did say the torture was a sad moment in our history but he never compared it with 9/11.

...you mean "constantly shouted over and interrupted," which does seem to count as a debate victory in the GOP rule book, then yes. More than anything, it seemed like they weren't all on the same page--Franken and Garofalo wanted to discuss specific issues and Quinn wanted to have a broad "what people on the left/right are like" discussion. Chuck D apparently had laryngitis. People are always saying that "Tough Crowd" is Republican--I don't think so exactly. Most of the time it's hard to discern what any of the regulars (Quinn and a bunch of loud Dice-esque goombas) actually think about anything: I've never heard a guest specifically say he's pro-life, or pro-voucher, etc. etc. They just tend to make easy jokes because none of them are very good comedians, and easy jokes tend to lean Right: they rely on mocking the disadvantaged and the intellectual in order to appeal to the comfort level of the average.

8. Actually Collin got trashed |
|
I saw it. The audience never cheered Collin for any of his points and none of the other two guests were backing him up. They sided with Al and Janine. It was pretty stupid if anything.

so, neither Franken or Jeanne rebutted effectively Like when Franken mentioned Golda Meiher's quote,"someday we will forgive the palestians for killing our children but we will not forgive ourselves for killing theirs" which was a great quote and comeback but then digressed into trying to expain it to Colin and then the whole message was lost. by and large, Colin would throw out a comment or opinion and Jeanne and Franken would talk overthemselves before offering a good rebuttal. Although, Jeanne did make some great statement about the US imperialistic approach that was making Arab hatred worse. Franken could have done a better job about why the prison abuse was high on the list of bad things that have happened to us, ie when Colin showed the pic of the trade center and the pile of naked bodies next to each. First, there are worse pictures than the naked pyramid, second we are hypocrytes to claim that with Saddam gone so is the abuse, thirdly, this abuse and far worse is being covered up as is the killing of thousands of civilians IN OUR NAME, the ends do not justify the means, and I kinda disagree with Jeanne about the imperialism stuff, in that as far as the collective plurality of the US is concerned this is a war of revenge for 9/11. For the neo-cons in power it probably is a power grab to secure the energy resources of the middle east USING the conservative base that wants revenge for the 9/11 attacks.

It was just Colin sounding like an incoherent ass (as usual), with Franken and Garofalo sounding like petulant progressive college kids with their rightwing dad at the dinner table. But it's very easy for us to sound that way - it happens to me too.
Anyway, nobody was making good points that I could see, and it was the usual Tough Crowd "Skim over any real issues in favor of some unfunny 'joke' thing."
I don't especially like this show, but I actually thought Kathy Griffin did a better job of sticking up for our side with her little memo notes.

I saw Al make a claim regarding a report on Al Queda numbers and Colin contradicted him. Course the audience cheered him on. In reality either one of them could have been in the wrong. The report wasn't there to verify. I went and found a yahoo story about it http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/iiss_world
