If Chalabi lied, then who lied about Saddam to Poppy? Should we believe
Edited on Wed May-26-04 04:21 PM by KoKo01
that he was a "Monster who gassed his own people, who tortured and maimed thousands, whose sons were rapists, torturers, murderers and sadists?"

There have been questions about why Saddam invaded Kuwait. There were questions about Poppy going in there, (I was around then) but, Poppy like his little devil spawn was coming off a popular Repug President's fervor (Reagan) and the Right Wing was just so enthralled about three terms of Repugs (OMG), most folks out in "mainstream America" believed what they told us when they showed us Spy Sattelite photos of Iraq encroaching over the border into Kuwait. We believed and we went into the Gulf War thinking we were "stabilizing the Middle East" by attacking a tyrant.

I remember CNN at that time, the night of the bombing with Peter Arnett and the guy from the "Weather Channel" (whose name I don't remember, who later died of a heart attack) standing on the roof of that Baghdad Hotel and showing the "rockets red glare" over baghdad." It was our first televised start to a war and we were "shocked and awed with our military might. I remmber Dick Cheney standing up daily with a pointer showing how well our bright, young, patriotic solders were doing fighting off the Evil Iraqi's. The daily "Military Press Conference" made it's first appearance in Gulf War I. I thought Cheney was a "cool dude." He seemed to be in total command with a high "Q" factor. I hated Poppy but thought Cheney was a "best and brightest."

I remember that reporter for the Pentagon, Wolf Blitzer, who people thought was kind of an odd ball with that beard thing, but he seemed to know "EXACTLY" what was going on in our military operations and was well spoken and put alot that we were doing into perspective. His name was funny and we joked about him (back when, I could discuss politics with friends) but everyone thought he was a neat "New Turk" in the CNN stable. Wolf did so well he got the top spot at CNN shortly after. Peter Arnett was fired from National Geographic at the start of "Operation Iraqi Liberation" under Poppy II for SPEAKING OUT.
That other guy with Arnett is dead so who knows what would have happened to him. Back to the Weather Channel?

Anyway, looking back on all this, I'm having doubts about what we were told about "EVIL SADDAM-DEVIL INCARNATE." Saddam was OUR proped up Dictator. It was our job to take him out for his "evilness" or was it for WHAT HE KNEW?

Just a rant....

2. These same neocons were around then. Pulling the strings.
Had poppy been re-elected, all this would have happened 8 years earlier.

Clinton's two terms threw them for a loop. That is ONE of the reasons for such hatred of Clinton. The elites hated him because he thwarted their plans for ME imperialism and the peons hated him because he was NOT a racist.

3. We lied to Saddam
our diplomats told him that what happens between Arab nations is none of our business and that we would not interfere. He thought he had a green light to invade Kuwait.

4. Lie to me darling, the lies I want to hear... It's not that they resisted
Chalabi peddled the goods that were needed - hence his rise to power. Think of it - he made money from W AND the Iranians - and all he had to do was sell his compatriots.

"the People" went along for the ride and the BIG BUCKS.

:puke: I wrote this from my "innocent perspective" at the time. :D...

(There isn't an emoticom for "hoodwinked the first time/clued in and raving the second time"), or I would have used it. Maybe :eyes: is the best?

6. Did Iraq invade Kuwait?
re: "mainstream America believed what they told us when they showed us Spy Satellite photos of Iraq encroaching over the border into Kuwait."

I'm confused... did the Iraqi army not enter Kuwait? That would be a pretty big story if they didn't.

9. Joe Wilson says that story is bunk
He said AG's answer was standard diplo-speak, and that a Hussein henchman who attended the meeting later told him that Saddam did not interpret it as a green light. I tend to believe him.

10. But, is Wilson covering that up, because he's where I am...that it was ALL
Edited on Wed May-26-04 05:33 PM by KoKo01
Wrong? I love Joe Wilson...I am with him all the way on his defending his wife. But, as Josh Marshall points out in his blog...there's a "feeding frenzy." I remember alot of stuff trying to come out about Glasby's Green Light to Saddam back then..but we didn't have the internet and folks like us who could "parse out" whether Glasby was covering her butt, or a flake. :-(
