Poll: McCain/Kerry Ticket A Winner
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/05/26/opinion/polls/main619786.shtml

(CBS) Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry holds an eight-point lead over President George W. Bush among registered voters in the latest CBS News poll, 49% to 41%, but one of the names currently bandied about as a running mate for him - Republican Sen. John McCain - gives Kerry an even larger edge when added to the ticket.

McCain has continued to face questions about joining his fellow Vietnam veteran Kerry on a ticket, despite having insisted that he is not interested in doing so. America’s voters, meanwhile, do have interest in such a bi-partisan slate: a hypothetical Kerry/McCain pairing holds a 14-point advantage over President Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney, nearly double the 8-point lead Kerry has alone over Bush.

2. No Doubt It Would Win
I would just be hoping against hope that:

1) Kerry survived his whole term; and
2) McCain toed (towed?) the party line on 50/50 Senate votes.

15. It is "toed" the line.
Phrase comes from the old bareknuckle boxing rules. The fighters would "toe the line" (literally, a line scratched in the dirt/dust of the ring) at the beginning of each round. This was also known as "coming up to scratch". Anyone who says "TOW the line" is, perhaps, honestly mistaken, but they are WRONG.

Oh, and as to the potentiality of a Kerry/McCain ticket: IF McCain is to have any part in a Kerry administration I'd rather it were as Secretary of Defence or something similar, where he's not second in line for the Presidency and tiebreaker in the Senate...McCain may be fairly honourable and reasonable, as Republicans go, but there are too many "ifs" with a McCain vice-presidency.

3. Let's stick with a Democrat for Vice President
A 10 point lead with Edwards as VP suits me just fine.

4. Don't care
If we have to run conservative Republicans in order to win then we've already lost.

7. I agree that we should have a Democrat as vp
but...there are three intriguing reasons why McCain as VP could be a good idea.

1. It could cause further instability within the Republican Party by pitting the Neo-con/Religious Right against the traditional "fiscal conservative" type Republicans - or moderates if you prefer. We are all ready seeing the rift develope. Divide and conquer!

2. It opens up a Senate seat in Arizona.

3. It's an automatic win.

I would like to reiterate that I would greatly prefer a Democratic VP, and either Wes Clark or John Edwards would do beautifully.

13. Uh huh and here's one REAL good reason why it would'nt be .
It'd be like placing a great big Target right between Kerrys eyes.

5. After all we Dems have been through
the past 3 1/2 years... if Kerry picks ANY Puke running mate I am going to be sooo unbelievably PISSED OFF! We deserve better from our candidate!

There are MANY MANY fine Democrats for the job! It may be different if there weren't!

I will take it as a personal insult if he picks ANY Puke as a running mate.

Furthermore as many have stated Kerry picks McCain and lets see how long Kerry it takes for Kerry to die! They are NOT above that kind of shit!

8. Poll: Kerry/Steaming Pile of Manure Ticket a Winner
That's where we are at the moment...

It's a referendum on *.

As long as a running mate has at least the consistency and backbone of a steaming pile, Kerry will do well.

It seems that a turd as VP will still net JK a win if things continue to go the way they have.

12. That's not news
It's a no-brainer that a Kerry/McCain ticket has added "juice" but it still doesn't mean it's a good idea. I fear what it would mean for the future of the party, not to mention the risk of the assassination of another JFK. It's just not worth it. This year is going to be all abou Shrub and his failures, either the country kicks him to the curb or continues to enable his madness.

17. All the 'centrists' around here keep insisting that we shouldn't worry...
...that Kerry would never choose McCain as VP. They say it's just all speculation and some sort of 'brilliant strategy' that they're even talking about it. Yet...the centrists keep posting these 'polls' and quotes from Hillary Clinton that suggest it would be a 'acceptable'.

- I'd like to know who is pushing these polls and asking these questions? Why does this issue keep coming up if there is no possibility? Is the DLC behind this? Is this their way of FINALLY driving the liberals and progressives from the party and appeasing the phantom swing voters? Their way of finally watering down the party and working towards a one-party state?

- This has the DLC stink all over it.

and I sure hope it doesn't. McCain may not be as evil as most rightwingers, but he is STILL and always will be one. Funny how there has been NO mention of him sitting on chimp's handpicked "investigative" panel, whats going on with that these days anyhow?

23. McCain is fine as GOP leadership, would love to see him
replace what they have now.. BUT he has no place being DNC leadership.

Come on, folks. I think Edwards or Clark would do very well on the ticket poll-wise. Of course, I'd rather see Dennis or Howard, but that's just me.)

25. do you have a death wish for Kerry
With McCain in the number 2 seat Kerry wouldn't make it to the summer. Sorry but the right wing nuts are known to kill people to get what they want. While McCain is a true rep. (vs. being a fascist like the rest of the 'rep.s')and light years better then bush he is still a rep and would do their bidding if he found himself in the number 1 spot.

27. It would win, and then we would be in living hell for 4-8 years
An executive branch fractured on policy and ideology would drive the party absolutely nuts. I mean, we have those anyway, but not to this degree, usually. :D
