Over 2,000 immigrants of "unknown" origin enter US in 2002 |
|
According to the record here... http://uscis.gov/graphics/shared/aboutus/statistics/IMM02yrbk/IMM2002text.pdf...2,655 people immigrated to the US in 2002 with an unknown country of origin. 2,344 in 2001 and 1,181 in 2000. Now, to me, that's just plain weird. Slightly disturbing too.

1. that's by REGION of BIRTH -- you give the impression that the |
|
"unknown" is where they came from, or country they immigrated from -- BUT, table B of the report you cite makes it pretty clear that it's about BIRTH country origin -- and, indeed, some immigrants do not know that information, especially refugees or asylees.
Having said all this, I DO understand your concern based on your interpretation of the data. But, it seems that the BIG HOLE is in our Visa (temp stay) program, much more so than the permanent resident or citizenship programs.
