How long do you think The Democratic Party will dominate? |
|
I know it's still early, but assuming that in November, John F Kerry and the Democrats win the White House, Senate and House (or House in 2006). How long do my fellow DU'ers anticipate the Democrats holding on to these?
Will party in-fighting come back? Will the corporate media push for the GOP fervently than even before? How long will it take for the public to believe, or trust the GOP again? (1 term, 2 terms or beyond?) Will we see a liberal political renaissance?
I am interested to hear what you all think.

10. Either one or the other. |

I believe that Kerry was selected as the Democratic nominee because it appeared, at the time, that Dean had too much momentum and might actually win. Those who control the big picture in this country became worried that he might actually beat Bush and, for whatever reason they have, don't want that to happen just yet. If it appears Kerry is going to win I'm sure things will be adjusted in whatever manner necessary to assure it doesn't happen. We've seen it before and I'm sure we'll see it again.

6. depends how dems handle things |

we could be flying into a hyper inflation train wreck whether GOP or DEMs run things, the Islamic world is enraged, I just read the last chapter of "Against all Enemies" and he paints a bleak picture with what Bush's actions have wrought. Although, I doubt the previous poster's strength of the GOP but the media will be much harsher towards a democratic majority without a doubt. We will have to focus on 2 or 3 things for 2 years, we can't fix the deficit, foreign relations, stop the war, reverse the bad environment laws, health care, prescription drugs all next year!

doesn't start again like it did before so the stark difference between the parties can finally be shown. They would have to unite and get their shit together for once, but I would expect a VERY hostile corporate media. I'd like media consolidation to be one of the major issues addressed, right after they deal with rightwing controlled voting methods.

to gain all those offices. This country still is imbued with the past 10 years of ideological ideas of the right wing. The best we can do is chip away. Hopefully, the party will stabilize at some point instead of tilting right to try to gain office quickly.

9. I think it depends on what kind of leader Kerry turns out to be |
|
If Kerry becomes President, he could easily determine the unification, direction and future of the party.
First, he has to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine, and change the landscape of the press.
Second, he has to put someone with Eliot Spitzer's talent and integrity in charge of the Dept. of Justice, and bring the GOP criminals to court for ALL their illegal dealings and treasonous acts. This MIGHT WELL include leading impeachment against certain Supreme Court justices for failure to uphold the constitution and the law.
Third, he HAS to rein in the corporate take-over of the government and the world. This will include initiating stronger labor laws.
Fourth, he has to lead the charge for fair elections with completely AUDITABLE ballots, and make sure Americans are ALL ON BOARD for true Democracy....no more potential emperors or corporate take-overs.
Last, but nowhere near least, he has to get our country unified again. It's going to be excruciatingly tough, given the extreme right wing take-over of all things Democratic. This will have to include getting religion OUT of government.
Holy shit! Looking at that list I just wrote, it wouldn't hurt if he could walk on water while he's at it!
I think if he chooses an extremely competent and dedicated VP and cabinet, and chooses top-notch advisors and agency heads, and if he can get them all working as a team, he could turn this whole mess around.
O8)Let us pray for that scenario!O8)

Could be longer, but that would be pure speculation on my part. The Dems get 6-8 for the humilation and disgrace of the Republicans.

13. until moderate Republicans take their party back from the loonies |
|
the GOP now is in the hands of extremists, who are using every device in their arsenal to enforce their narrow, bigoted, extremist agenda onto the entire party.
The problem is that this agenda has the support of maybe 25% of the population.
There is NO way the GOP can win free and fair elections as long as it is dominated by these loonies (specific evidence: every single GOP leader in Congress... and DeLay as speaker of house...)
