Let's apply Occam's Razor to Ashcroft's Announcement.
Occam's Razor essentially states that the simplest explanation is often the best explanation.

Now, let's strip away the hyperbole from Ashcroft's lates Moment at The Hot-Button and consider the intended effect of all this foofawraw:

1. Certainly, FUD(Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt). They have trafficked in that for years and there is no reason to doubt that they wouldn't go back to that well in a crunch.

2. More importantly, The Repuke Convention. They know, with great certainty, that their convention holds the real potential to turn into something that will make Chicago 1968 look like a landscaper and lawn care trade show, only less exciting. They have been flailing like someone who has just run a full gram of Nasty Biker Crank up the mainline and knocked it back with a pint of medical ether. They NEED some sure and certain way of locking down Manhattan Island like Fort Knox. This announcement is surely the first step in a plan that will have highway security checkpoints on New Jersey's Manhattan approaches, well west of the city. Like Rockaway, NJ.

You can bet that come convention time, thanks to this little foundation they have laid, that there won't be an un-credentialed vehicle moving towards Manhattan for a radius of 50 linear miles.

2. Ponder this
I wonder if those pictures are people in Gitmo, since the last time they realeased a BOLO (Be On LookOut) it was someone in Pakistan.

3. The photos are recycled.
A Canadian friend online pointed this out, and I checked back, and sure enough, these desperadoes have been trotted out before to scare the wits out of the witless.

I knew at the time that 3 of them looked awfully familiar.

I guess that's why Asscrock and Ridge flashed them on the screen for only a second, and why the news all over the country has afforded them as little exposure.

4. Ashcroft's List outdated from 6 years ago
Ashcrofts summer "suspect" list

Apparenty Ashcroft's latest hit list, is a collection of easy to find people
on the internet, outdated infos from 6 years ago, and oppressed infos from
just last year.
According to an older article of Middle East Times, two of the mentioned
"suspects" had a "logistical relationship", Ashcroft forgot to tell us
about...

5. Traffic problems?
How will the ordinary people of New York feel when they have National Guardsmen slow their traffic to the speed of a parking lot?

All right, New Yorkers don't really drive anywhere. But they will undoubtedly have checkpoints at train stations that will cause the same problems.

Somehow, the scene on the Brooklyn Bridge from "Spider-Man" comes to mind, with people wearing Republican badges getting brickbats and garbage thrown at them like they were the Green Goblin...which they are.

6. Do the Repubs care in the least about ordinary New Yorkers?
When was the last time a Repub presidential candidate carried NYC?

They want the 9/11 devastation as a backdrop. They honestly do not care if any living person in the city is inconvenienced.
