Oil Stocks During Bush Administration |
|
According to the American Petroleum Institute (API) there is currently 298.9 mmb of crude oil in storage in the US. That number represents an increase of 4.8% over the 285.1 mmb in storage at this time in 2003.
API also reports on distillate stocks; diesel fuel, jet fuel, things like that. There is currently 109.2 mmb of distillates in storage, which is 6.3% more than the 102.7 mmb that we held this time last year.
Unleaded gasoline is a little different. API reports that there is 203.7 mmb in storage at the moment and that is 2.3% less than this time last year when we held 208.4 mmb in storage but it matches 2001 when we also had 203.7 mmb in storage and is slightly more than in 2000, when we held 203.6 mmb.
So, lets get this right. Currently there is almost 5% more crude, 6% more distillate stock, and 2% less gasoline in storage than there was a year ago but prices for each of the three of those items is up over 50% during the same period.

This site is usually updated on wednesdays. The historical data is there too but it takes a little digging to get at it. http://www.oilnergy.com/

2. Surely you don't think anyone would gouge an America at war? |
|
Gouge the very people who need to move the freight for the all out WAR EFFORT in trucks, because the Railroads are unsafe for the volume of freight they handled during WWII and our other wars? Why, that would be very unpatriotic to do a thing like that, wouldn't it?

4. I take it that this does not include the Strategic Petroleum Reserve... |
|
...controlled by government/military which is supposed to be somewhere around 700mmb and could keep this country running for up to 100 days in the event of a major catastrophic event such as a total embargo.
