Bush wants to remove more environmental restrictions...
Excerpt:

"Republican President Bush believes removing environmental restrictions would allow more oil drilling and refining in the United States, which would increase supply and so, lower gas prices."

Full story is here

I just wish once, I could check the news and that guy would do something that would NOT piss me off. I got a better idea, why don't these anal, uptight, yuppie, republicans get rid of their gas hog SUVs instead?

And if one more a-hole tells me about the price of gas in Europe... Yes, I already know the price of gas is five dollars a gallon in Switzerland, that's why when I was out there a couple of weeks ago, I would take the electric train, and public transportation, and you don't find tons of SUVs and vans on the road. Maybe we should take a hint from all of Europe on that.

2. Hard to change many people's minds on the consumption of resources
We have gotten so far away from teaching conservation in this country. When was the last time an ad was run on TV to promote conservation?

Some good things have happened such as recycling programs, but overall it's pretty depressing.

Here in S. CA the majority of people will never be stripped of their cars. I'm convinced the gas prices could go to $10.00/gallon and people would just pull out their credit card and go on as usual.

3. Anything to bring down the price of gas is OK. I like my SUV.
I can get a lot of people in it plus baggage and it's safe. The truck I got for my son is great too and comes in handy for hauling gardening tools etc. Personally, I drive my Mustang to work because it's cheap on gas.

6. Buy a minivan. They are safer and more fuel efficient
Edited on Thu May-27-04 10:36 AM by SpikeTrees
Too many people buy these off road vehicles purely for style.
Addition: I got 23 mpg in my last two fillups in my minivan. That was mostly my commuting driving, which is a mix of highway and suburban-city driving. Only the smallest of SUVs can equal that performance, and those vehicles do not meet your requirements of hauling stuff any better than a car.

7. I really don't think "anything" to bring down the price of gas is OK.
...this is Houston with the current environmental restrictions, do you want it worse than it is now? Even on the clear day snap, you can see the toxic waste in the upper atmosphere.

Its looking like our country is willing to risk world war and catastrophic climate change , both of which could easily end the US or the world, and you are OK with that because you want to ride around in your SUV?

Thats disgusting.

14. What the hell are you ranting about? The safety of my family
is my utmost concern. You think I'm risking world war and catastrophic climate change by keeping myself and my family safe in an SUV. The mileage I get in my SUV is as good as any other vehicle (24 mpg). Stop ranting and get down off your high horse and get a grip.

16. Your family? Do you have children?
You would risk sending them into an uncertain and dangerous world just so you can more cheaply drive around?

Thats even worse.

15. Don't buy into the myth that it's a myth.
Minivans and SUVs have scored the highest in the latest government safety tests on 2004 automobiles.

23. So, screw the environment?
Actually, SUV's aren't that safe. Rollovers can be a problem.

25. Rollovers are a problem only if you don't realize that the CG
is higher than in other vehicles. You don't take curves or corners like you're driving a corvette.

24. So you'd be okay with sending your kids over to Iraqnam to die?
After all, Bu$hy said that it was supposed to lower gas prices. I remember him using that to try to get Americans to buy into his war after the WMD excuse failed.

9. I know...
I think about that everyday. We think things are bad now, just wait and see what things he will do when he doesn't have to keep up his phony appearances for reelection's sake.

19. Gotta get off the oil kick - but then what would run the US WarMachine???
.
.
.

I know there is some validity to the SUV thing, but has anyone ever studied the amount of oil the US uses for all it's operations in over 130 countries???

Oh yeah, don't think that all those operations in Iraq don't have something to do with the shortage of oil.

As to vehicles, I just bought myself a used bicycle last month for 20 bucks.

It's paid for itself in gas saved already. And I get out more! - Now I don't worry about the price of the gas - I bicycle to the store for that stuff I forgot, or want on impulse, and take a side-tour to boot - for FREE!!

And my only vehicle for the last 14 years is a humongous old 4x4 - about 12 miles per gallon.

But I spend more money on insurance than gas in a year, only drove 5,000 cliks in the last 2-1/2 years. It has a camper on it and camping is my passion - just the insurance alone would not justify another vehicle.

I have solar panels and an inverter to run the odd electrical appliance when I'm camping, but mostly use the hydro for lights, reading at night.

I used to recharge the batteries by running the truck - VERY expensive, and stinky. Not to mention one doesn't want to run short of gas when your back in the boonies!

And - whenever those idiots with their fingers on the button finally "do it" - I'm mobile!

Yup - the idiots will do it sooner or later,

Have humans invented weapons they haven't used in the past ?

Nope -

The BoyKing and his ilk are just ITCHING for an all-out global war to "test" all their evil toys

Of this I have no doubt.

(sigh)
