A curious Rush quote
“The purpose of the war was to go over there and steal Iraqi oil for Bush, Cheney and Halliburton. But if we're going to pull out, there's going to be nobody to steal the oil! If we pull out there’s going to be no illicit profits rebuilding what we broke. So I don't know why we went in the first place, if all we're going to do is pull out prematurely.”

I assume this is out of context, but he himself put it on his website: http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_052604/content/quotes.guest.html

1. Interesting...
One of the dumbest people on the planet actually said something than can be mildly considered truthful, albeit likely unintentional (he wouldn't want to make a habit of it, of course).

According to my wingnut brother, Rush is "maybe the most intelligent man in America".

13. Every time I think of Rush
a scene from "Bigger, Longer, and Uncut" flashes through my mind.

"Why do you call me a pig f*cker, Philip?
"Because you f*ck pigs."
"Oh yeah!"

Rush is such a piece of shit. Two hundred years ago, he'd have been a lobbyist for the slave trade.

3. Sounds like his meds need adjustment again
I agree, that's very curious. What is he doing, some sort of lame parody? If so, who is he parodying?
I don't get it, but there are few things he says that I get.

4. I've no idea, I didn't actually listen.
But he put up the quote on his website, void of context. Strange. I wonder whether his handlers are trying to experiment with the "Yeah, it was for oil. We need oil. Oil is essential to our security." type of approach.

Being that WMDs, liberation, remaking of the Middle East, connections to Al Qaeda, have all died their political deaths as justifications for this war.

7. He did come out and make the assertion
that the first Gulf War was fought "to keep the flow of cheap oil to America" or something like that. He repeated that theme often.

22. But that justification can be easily challenged.
How much oil would $200BB have bought? Was this worth the price of 800+ dead Americans and thousands of innocent Iraqis and our international reputation?

Where's the freemarket support for supply and demand by these Republicans? Seems the Iraqis would have no problems taking care of their society and infrastructure if they had control of their oil and could sell it on the open market. Since the oil companies can, in no way, be interpreted as "free-marketeers" and since they really are the group that funds the current Republican Party, I wonder when Americans will wise up to the fraud this party is perpetrating on us?

23. You're absolutely right
But, there's a lag period between the release of a propaganda hot-air balloon and its eventual landing under the weight of a logical counter-argument. All of the other "justifications" for war also had very sound and quick counter-arguments from the very start. In the meantime, these hot-air balloons slow down Bush*'s freefall.

8. Wonder what the freeps would make of that quote
who knows they just might make sense of it - because it is hard to believe that he not only said it, but that he thought it was such a good snippet that he put it on his website (unless one of his staffers is a mole of some sort....)

“It's no secret we're trying to establish a pro-American democracy in Iraq. That's a great thing, to try to turn that cauldron of human debris in that region into an area of the world where people can prosper as we do here.”

The military isn't pulling out. Ever. We built 14 bases there, to replace the ones shut down in Saudi Araba at Osama's behest.

And the Embassy in Baghdad (and its satellite offices) will the largest American Embassy in the world, with the most employees.

edit: spelling

17. i heard him say it
and if i rember correctly, he was talking to or about a repub caller who was saying that the war was illegal and who brought up some other points about the war that rush disagreed with.

so rush then turns on the "well you are a liberal and think big bad halliburton is there stealing money"

then he made that comment. that is of course if i rember correctly.

:silly:

rush says these things to mock the ideas and facts behind them and to belittle any discussion on the topic.

28. probably because he is trying to make a point
he believes he is being persecuted these days. he talks about how his abu grhaib "frat pranks/blowing off steam" comment was taking out of context. so he is probably putting this up there out of context to some how try and defend what he said about abu grhaib torture/abuse. rush proclaimed himself as one of the media's primary whipping boys for this bush admin yesterday. poor rush.

:nopity:

and yes i listen to rush during my lunch break, there is nothing else on the radio and i enjoy listening to the way he manipulates ideas/facts. but fear not, my pc streams AAR all day.

27. Either they are laying the groundwork to tell the dittos the truth about
the invasion, or it is Rush's delusional attempt at humor. Since I've never heard him say anything remotely funny and the dittos think him hilarious, this could be some form of primitive humor.

That or someone hacked into his site, but that's doubtful since the quote is so weird.
