CNN reports Al Qaeda wants John Kerry elected

Call CNN

Outrage:http://tinyurl.com/2kskd

ARENA: Neither John Kerry nor the president has said troops pulled out of Iraq any time soon. But there is some speculation that al Qaeda believes it has a better chance of winning in Iraq if John Kerry is in the White House.

BEN VENZKE, INTELCENTER: Al Qaeda feels that Bush is, even despite casualties, right or wrong for staying there is going to stay much longer than possibly what they might hope a Democratic administration would.

There you go. We're fighting al Qaeda in Iraq and they think John Kerry is a wimp.

21. This is just more spin fron 'Pubs -
If you vote Kerry, Al-Q wins.
If you vote Kerry, you are unpatriotic.

Given that there is NO WAY that Kerry could have handled the war any more incompetently than Shrub - only the uninformed will believe this load of crap. Unfortunately, there are a lot of the uninformed who vote nonetheless...

Why is the media silent? Any note or letters from terrorists that mentions a US president should be reported, unless it endangers his life.

No mention of Clinton, Gore or Kerry? I guess that is why mainstream media won't report it.

Ms. Arena:
Yesterday, you said the following:
ARENA: Neither John Kerry nor the president has said troops pulled out of Iraq any time soon. But there is some speculation that al Qaeda believes it has a better chance of winning in Iraq if John Kerry is in the White House.

Who is speculating this, and how do they know what al Qaeda believes? Is the source a reliable one?

I must question CNN's impartiality when I hear such ambiguous statements. This sounds very partisan to me.

Iraq is AQ's new training ground. Their new recruits get to cut their teeth killing US soldiers, then the cream of the crop is skimmed off and sent out on other missions around the world.

Why would they EVER want us out of Iraq? They'd lose their best source of recruits.

The first in a series of things to do, when Kerry is in office, is to begin unravelling what powell's son did, and what reagan did.

But I seriously don't think it can be done.

And that brings me to the thought that the repubs did what they have done, just so that we COULD NOT clean up their mess.

Was that their plan the whole time? Fuck things up so badly that noone could fix them?

17. No ... They want Bush

Al Queda wants Bush to be president. They're bringing about the Islamic rapture and the war they want against the West.

A level headed person like Kerry and Clinton is the LAST thing they want. They would try to solve a lot of these problems diplomatically and avoid stirring up the Islamic masses to holy war.

I want a bumper sticker.

20. Write to Ben Venzke, too
I googled Venzke and Intelcenter. It looks like a legit terrorist-info group, but how could I tell?

Here is his email:
bvenzke@intelcenter.com

What I'd like to know is whether he is basing his assertions on real information from "intel" or whether he is guessing. Would we be out of Iraq sooner if Kerry were elected? Probably true, but only in a way that leaves the country stable, as he's said. The Chimp is certainly trying to bail out by hook or crook, in such a messy way (transfer power/blame to SOMEbody and wash our hands of whatever follows, imo) because he's been pulling the band-aid off slowly, which has been disastrous. Because Chimp is unable/unwilling to establish real security there, the fighting among sects and against the US would continue if he were elected and could lead to just the sort of state Al Qaeda would like to see and exploit -- one like Iran's or the Taliban's former rule in Afghanistan.

Moreover, and more importantly, Kerry will get the world together to fight Al Qaeda *effectively!* He'll do everything the Chimp can't or won't, including putting pressure on the Saudis and cracking down on the Pakistan/Afghanistan border.

So this notion that Al Qaeda prefers Kerry is ridiculous, as is the notion that an attack would benefit him. This is using FEAR to impact it and it's infuriating!!!

25. "Better chance of winning" what?
"But there is some speculation that al Qaeda believes it has a better chance of winning in Iraq if John Kerry is in the White House."

Al Qaeda first attacked two US embassies, then a US war ship. Why? Because it had declared a "holy war" on the US, and clearly, those particular attacks were meant to provoke a military response that it could use to drum up support in the Muslim world. When those attacks didn't work, it attacked the WTC, which was obviously intended to kill enough innocent Americans that it couldn't be ignored, but it also attacked the Pentagon, and probably also intended to attack either the Capitol or the White House. Those attacks, again, were intended to insult the US power structure.

With Bush*'s illegal invasion of Iraq, they finally got what they wanted, in Spades. Not only was the invasion completely irrational as a reaction to terrorism -- and therefore easily characterized as a war against Muslims -- but the idiot Bush* even called it a "crusade" and said that his Christian god directed him to do it.

The longer we stay in Iraq, the more al Qaeda wins. That analysis is completely idiotic.

27. My letter
I disagree with your thinking that al queda wants Kerry.
I believe bush's policies have swelled the ranks of terrorists.
In 2002 before we invaded Iraq , the FBI released a report
that stated that there are "200 hardcore al queda members
left" ....Now they are saying there are 18,000.

You can't get more black and white then that .

I also just read a news article in the Contra Costa Times
that bush has warned of cuts to education and port security.
Whaaaaaaaaaaa ????

Bush is weak on fighting Terror , he appeased osama
by pulling troops out of Saudi Arabia and played right into
osama's rhetoric by invading Iraq . Not to mention winning
the Iraq , Iran war for Iran by spending U.S. treasure and
blood to achieve Iran's goals . Bush has been duped ,
he may be a good guy , but he has been led astray by
misguided shortsighted advisers .

I want a president who thinks for himself , and who listens
to American Intelligence Agencies over foreigners like
Chalibi .

I support American Soldiers and the Constitution so I
must oppose bush and his disregard for both .

I love America enough to know a vote for Kerry is a
vote against al queda . A vote for Kerry is a vote for
the Constitution , our Soldiers , Financial Security,
National Security , Clean Air/Water , Good Schools,
and Affordable Healthcare . To put it simply if you love
Freedom and hold American Honor above all you will
vote for Kerry .

My very best ,
proud patriot

29. Here's mine
(I sent a similar one to Kelli Arena, too.)

Dear Mr. Venzke,

I am writing to you about the following exchange, which CNN has been replaying since yesterday:

ARENA: Neither John Kerry nor the president has said troops pulled out of Iraq any time soon. But there is some speculation that al Qaeda believes it has a better chance of winning in Iraq if John Kerry is in the White House.

BEN VENZKE, INTELCENTER: Al Qaeda feels that Bush is, even despite casualties, right or wrong for staying there is going to stay much longer than possibly what they might hope a Democratic administration would.

I don't know whether you're basing your assertions on real information from "intel" about what Al Qaeda "feels," or whether you are just guessing, but I think your statement itself is damaging to a fair election. The notion that Al Qaeda would like to see the (big, bad, hawkish) Bush administration ousted, and would prefer the (weak, peacenick, appeasing) Kerry as president is straight out of a Rush Limbaugh script, and probably Karl Rove's playbook.

Would we be out of Iraq sooner if Kerry were elected? Probably so, but only in a way that leaves the country stable, as he's said. Is that what you believe Al Qaeda wants? Bush, having bungled this effort by failing to secure Iraq from the start, is certainly trying to bail out now by hook or crook and failing at every turn. He is now willing to negotiate with people like Al Sadr, to transfer power to somebody -- anybody -- and to appeal, without real success, to "Old Europe." Another example of his floundering for an exit is the assertion by some administration flacks that the new entity in charge after June 30th may ask us to leave, in which case, we will graciously oblige them (Bush's cut-and-run strategy?). Because he's unable or unwilling to establish real security there, the fighting among sects and against the US would continue if he were elected and could lead to just the sort of state Al Qaeda would like to see and exploit -- one like Iran's, or the Taliban's former rule in Afghanistan.

Moreover, and more importantly, Kerry is far more able to bring our allies together, not only to establish security in Iraq through an international organization, but also to fight Al Qaeda effectively.

So this notion that Al Qaeda prefers Kerry is not logical, nor is it clear how an attack would benefit his chances of election. On the contrary, it seems to me that the very idea is an RNC dream come true, being played out in the media now, whether or not it actually occurs. "We won't be another Spain! How dare they try to influence our election to defeat Bush! If Kerry wins, the terrorists will have won! A vote for Kerry is a vote for the terrorists! For Bush to lose would be a victory for Al Qaeda! Rally round the president and fight those terrorists!!"

Clearly, this preys on people's fear and anger from 9/11, a tactic the Bush adminstration has been succeeding at for years now. (Ironically, exploiting fear and anger enabled the invasion of Iraq in the first place.) In my view, all speculation about "what Al Qaeda wants" in our election reflects the lowest level of political discourse. The announcement that they want Kerry and would attack to oust Bush is itself tampering with our democracy. It's despicable and infuriating.

Sincerely,

62. Here's mine
Re: Does Osama want Kerry? as you said in your "news"

Why in Sam Hill would OBL want to switch when, you know, if it works, don’t fix it. The goal of a terrorist is to get the victims to OVERREACT. Then the terrorists can recruit resources and troops by exploiting the overreaction. George Bush has been the perfect rubber ball—throw him against a wall, and like night follows day, like another law of physics, he will bounce back, and in a perfectly predictable way, mindless, without wisdom or intelligence or the common sense ability to measure whether the bounce-back is actually to our benefit.

Well, you can ignore me anyway. I’m so disgusted with your crew—Crowley and Kurtz and Blitzer as the most obnoxious examples—that I’m about ready to turn you guys off forever. The only reason I ever watch anymore is because you do have two anchors of worth—Lou Dobbs and Aaron Brown. Damn them—if it weren’t for them, I could write you guys off forever.

85. And mine...
Ms. Arena,
It would seem that in these days post the Iraq invasion, when much of what the administration was selling, and cable networks so eagerly peddling, has proven to be complete misinformation, journalists would begin to use a little restraint. Just a few days ago, the NYT was forced to admit in an "Editor's Note" that its coverage in the lead up to the invasion was credulous at minimum, and has been proven wrong. I see, however, that this has not troubled you, and you will continue to carry water for the administration, no matter how dubious the source or outlandish the charge. You have selected two "experts", whose backgrounds and agendas are not revealed to the listener, to state that John Kerry is favored by the terrorists. This is a DISGUSTING charge to make against a true American hero. The fact that you did so on such flimsy grounds is staggering. Your listeners are not stupid, Ms. Arena, although people with an I.Q. over 100 are rapidly desering CNN's biased "news" coverage. Most of us know that if you could selectively find two "experts" to spew this filth, there are at least an equal number that would say the opposite. In an election year, with so many truly critical issues at stake, you decided not to balance your irresponsible charges with an opposing viewpoint. That is not journalism. And it is a terrible injustice to the American public, the people you supposedly serve.

35. Good. That means there won't be any terrorist attacks.
Now, if Al Qaeda wants Kerry elected that means they won't do anything to enflame anti-terrorist hysteria, which obviously would play into the hands of Bush. But then again, look at Spain, they may say, where an attack pushed the electorate to the left. Decisions. Decisions.

Osama bin Laden couldn't have asked for a more gullible enemy than George W. Bush, who has managed to convince the rest of the world that the United States is as overbearing and threatening as he had always claimed.

Be sure to provide the link to the transcript and the transcript itself.

My favorite line is:

"But there is some speculation"

That is not news. That is not journalism.

Yeah, there's speculation right here that y'all're a bunch of right-wing propagandists.

42. Did they state this as fact - or as a talking head clearly
spouting rightwing perspective? The latter I understand (and the audience frames it as such when viewing it as a "and from the right..." type statement.) The first, unless they have some "evidence" to cite (what - a new al qeada tape claiming as much?), is completely inexcusable. Please clarify the context - it is important.

44. No
it was about as bad as you can imagine. Saying that Spain was a "win" for the terrorists. 2 people painted as legit saying that Al Queda wants Kerry to win. Sickening.

50. As fact
It started out a few days ago as unnamed officials expressing "concern" that Al Qaeda would attack to "affect" or "manipulate" our election. They didn't say in which direction, but the implication was clear because they kept saying "like they did in Spain." Now they're going the next step....

******

ARENA (voice-over): Terror experts say it's not about who wins the U.S. election, it's about impact.

M.J. GOHEL, ASIA-PACIFIC FOUNDATION: If, for instance, say, George Bush was in the lead in the opinion polls right now and an attack took place and that changes the equation as it did, for instance in Spain, then al Qaeda would feel that it has scored a major success.

ARENA: Al Qaeda affiliates attacked Spain just before its elections in March. Some suggests that cemented an overwhelming win for the socialist party.

ASHCROFT: We believe, for example, the attack in Spain is one that is viewed by al Qaeda as particularly effective in advancing al Qaeda objectives.

ARENA: The attack did result in Spain pulling its troops out of Iraq. Experts say the less Western influence in Iraq, the better for al Qaeda.

GOHEL: Iraq is a key battleground for the terrorists. The terrorists want to turn Iraq into another Taliban Afghanistan. They would like to see the premature withdrawal of the U.S.-led coalition forces.

43. Why, when Bush is GREAT for Al Qaeda recruitment?
Bush is the best thing that ever happened to bin Laden and fundamentalist maniacs worldwide. It's like Fox suing Franken, or Disney refusing to distribute Moore -- a cascade of free publicity, working people up in a way that their little recruitment videos and tapes never could!

Not only does bin Laden/Al Qaeda have Bush EXACTLY where they want him -- i.e. our mighty army mired in a tar pit -- but the ideologically driven blunders of his administration have not only energized recruitment for Al Qaeda for the foreseeable future, but have driven away our allies! And finally, the aggressive NeoCon program has had the oppsite effect of what it strove to achieve, and will probably weaken Israel in the long term.

I said a long time ago -- with George W in the White House, all bin Laden has to do is sit back and put his feet up, and watch America and Israel destroy themselves. This is a horrid outcome.

Ashcroft's intention was pretty clear -- to convince America that if, in the face of widespread undiluted failures of policy by this administration, they voted their hearts and heads to send Whistle Ass back to Texas, then John Kerry, while submissively peeing himself and blubbering like a little girl, would hand our nation over lock stock and barrel to Al Qaeda, who would then install homosexual Islamic Communist rule in America.

We should remind people that Spain turned on Aznar because he LIED to them -- not because they were frightened of Al Qaeda.

We need to do the same thing to our National Liar in Chief.

The beginning of the end of these horrific times will be regime change in the US. Life after a Kerry victory will have its challenges, because the damage caused by the NeoCons has been profound, but it will be the most effective course of action to take to restore our national honor and reverse the disastrous course the Bushistas have placed us on.

Repeat after me -- Bush LIES! He has ALWAYS lied! This is JUST ANOTHER lie!

Sadly -- these bastards will choose to destroy our country before they will relinquish their hold on it.

46. Here's my letter
I'm sure by now you've heard from several irate people regarding this recent exchange that was on CNN where a commentator suggested that Al Qaeda was rooting for Kerry.

Here's the deal. The reason I'm flabergasted by this exchange is because it makes no honest sense to me. Speak with any middle eastern expert at any college in America and I bet you 9 times out of 10 you're going to hear the exact opposite opinion.

Us being in Iraq is what is inflaming sentiment over there! They want us to be there, not the other way around! Us being there is proof that we want their OIL!!! That we want to change their way of life and make Westerners out of them all.

The fact that we have currently ticked off every single country in the world except possible Israel, is a suggestion to me, that the Bush Administration IS NOT LESSONING TERRORISM!!!!

So here's the deal. Get that idiot back on your show who suggests that Al Qaeda is rooting for Kerry and pair him with an expert from the other side and let's have an honest exchange.

Because here's my fear. I have heard all of the right wing radio talk shows yakking about America experiencing a terror attack before the election. To me, it appears that these unsavory people are trying to plant into people's head that were that to happen, a vote for Kerry is a vote for terrorists.

We cannot let that happen to our election. So when CNN, pretty much the only respected television news show, runs a piece that fits in perfectly with this crazy, right wing fantasy, I get incredibly incredibly concerned.

Sincerely

xxx

One other note, CNN/Time Warner IS a SPONSOR of the RNC convention. Yes
they are SPONSORING IT. While they may also be "sponsoring" the DNC as well,
with comments like this, it's not only a "sponsorship" but an endorsement as
well.

I don't want the news media to engage in speculation. I want facts.

69. Here's
my letter to CNN....

I simply cannot believe that CNN purports to be the “Most Trusted News Source” for America. The absolute trash that you people peddle is simply beyond belief!

A few months ago I made a decision to stop watching most of your shows. I had continued to watch from 6:15 am to about 7:00 am each morning. However after reading the above transcript I have now decided to drop your station altogether.

How can your organization in good conscience report this on your stations? It seems to me that most of your so-called reporters have left their journalistic roots to become mouthpieces for the Bush mis-administration and their lackeys. Why can’t you report the FACTS and drop the speculation and the right wing propagandistic tricks!

The nation will soon know what Bush and his minions have been up to and CNN will be punished along with them for helping them carry out this outrage against Americans.

Sincerely,

http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/print/CTVNews/1079609768527_2/
?h...
snip> The statement tells American voters that Abu Hafs al-Masri
supports the re-election campaign of U.S. President George W. Bush: "We
are very keen that Bush does not lose the upcoming elections."
Addressing Bush, it says: "We know that a heavyweight operation would
destroy your government, and this is what we don't want. We are not
going to find a bigger idiot than you."
The statement said Abu Hafs al-Masri needs what it called Bush's
"idiocy and religious fanaticism" because they would "wake up" the
Islamic world.
Comparing Bush with his Democratic party challenger, John Kerry, the
statement tells the president: "Actually, there is no difference
between you and Kerry, but Kerry will kill our community, while it is
unaware, because he and the Democrats have the cunning to embellish
infidelity and present it to the Arab and Islamic community as
civilization." <snip
