I still hate people from orange county

Well, the bus was half an hour late so I was going home with my friend again. Of course, i saw that stupid girl again.SO, she walks up to me and says "You were wrong; my mom told me bush doesn't discriminate against gays, he just thinks marriage is between a man and a woman." So I said "oh, yeah; he doesn't discriminate against them, even though that's the exact definition of disrimination." But she was prepared this time. "Kerry dicriminates against gays, too" "Did I ever say I agreed with everything Kerry says?" "yes!" "no, I didn't. I said he's better than bush." "Oh, ok, then you do you believe in abortion." "I'm pro-choice." "WHAT! How can you want to kill a baby?!" "SO that it doesn't live a crappy life from a mother who can't take care of it." "What if your mom got an abortion? THEN YOU WOULDN'T BE HERE!" "My mom wanted to have me as a child. If i was going to have a crappy life she would have gotten an abortion." "I can't believe you." My friend's mom comes. "Well, I have to go. But just as a tip, think for yourself. DOn't regurgitate your mom's words." Then, as I walked towards the car I heard her screaming something stupid. But, I wasn't listening; I was laughing to hard at that point.

I hope to get in more fights with this girl. It pissed me off at first but it's starting to get fun :evilgrin: maybe I can convince her to change her mind (well, it never really was her opinion to start with)

1. the abortion rights debate

isn't about whether a child would have a good or a bad life. It's about whether the government has the power to compel a woman to give birth against her will. Pro-choice doesn't mean pro-abortion: it just means you're not willing to let the government force a woman to give birth.

you'll never convince somebody that abortion is OK "as long as the baby is unwanted". That totally misses the point.

It's not hard to argue that the government should not have the right to compel a woman to give birth against her will. How would they do it? Imprison her?

(Margie Shoedinger's) unborn child killed even though she wanted to carry it to term. The part about Margie's baby is on record in Texas.

9. It's OK, Colorado Springs has a lot of Orange County's mentality.

Our newspaper owners are based there. But, we do fine. One thing to remember, if you want to try to change someone's mind don't always get into a shouting, arguing match. They just ram themselves into corner and have no clue how to get out. Humor, deprecation, a judiciously raised eyebrow may take you farther with the facts. Good luck. :D

10. I agree. Orange County sucks....

I just posted in a thread how I am being negatively influenced by the shallowness of Orange County. I've heard it referred to as the "Orange Curtain," because it's just so different, at least from Los Angeles.

Of course, it would be nicer to live in a much more progressive city, but then your views wouldn't be challenged as they are now. Best to start practicing now before heading off to college where the more educated Repubs dwell. In my experience, they're still basically ignorant, but articulate and more self righteous.

But you are doing such a good job defending your views....keep it up! Have you thought about joining a debate club at school (if they even have one). You never know, you may be one of our great young leaders of the Democratic party. Lord knows we need them.
