Personally, I think Bush's overuse of the terms has rendered them pointless in the current vernacular.
Besides, I don't want to sound anything like him. ;-)

When I am refering to the shrub version of terror, I always say terra.
I know that could get confusing, but then shrub would never, ever refer to a term like terra firma, so it's not too bad.
