Take Back The Media has done some astounding work in exposing the truth about how things work for some time now. And doing it in a way that really cuts to the core. Their videos are great tools for education, and the weekly news shows really deserve replay on AAR. Like most of us, they do what they do because it needs to be done and they have the skills. And like most of us, they don't have a lot of money.

We need to do what we can to support the better known organizations and groups, but we also need to help the less well-known projects - local groups close to home, but also those that are close to us in cyberspace.

I donated a small amount - well, as things have been recently, given my hours, close to a day's pay - and encourage other folks to help by giving whatever they can and by helping to bring these remarkable productions to the attention of their friends and associates.

(And maybe give this a kick in the AM for the Saturday crowd - 11:00PM on the west coast is not prime time for new threads.)

Of course, this is my choice. I use Firefox as a browser (recommended to anyone who despises pop-ups).

I would guess they need donations because they don't get enough income to pay the bills. Slamming them for trying to get income by means other than donations seems pretty low to me. If you think what they do is worth supporting, give them some help. If you don't like their site, stay away.

Don't posture as some moralistic Puritan who advocates withholding support because of the ads you haven chosen to see. If you don't like seeing pop-up ads there are lots of tools available (ask for help), but don't argue that withholding support from one of the progressive movement's best sites is a solution to your problem with pop-up ads. That would be stupid.

6. Thanks kind people..

It takes a lot of work to run a site, and believe it or not, there are only three of us running the whole scene..

That's all of us making animations, running around the country filming presidential candidates, doing street theatre (dressing up like Cheney and throwing 911 Dollars out of the back of a convertable Rolls Royce - see that one, it's a lot of fun) - we've gone to NYC to be finalists for MoveOn.org's Bush in 30 seconds and we should be attending the Boston Democratic Convention with three or four camera folks to interview everyone we can..

thinking of writing a book as well as creating a documentary -- we want to be full service Progressives and keep beating Bush like a Circus Donkey until he's GONE..

also as a Veteran I created the ARMY OF ONE ad that got shown in New Hampshire 3000 times during the Primaties on cable tv.. even went on Scaroborough's show and touted the ad, ready to get into a big argument with that idiot, but he LOVED the ad.. go figger..

haveing worked in a Veteran's hospital and being one myself it's one of my pet projects as well.. my son is going to be 18 this Halloween and I DON'T want him drafted like I was..

We also have been sued a few times, once by Michael Savage's Talk Radio Network, they sued for half a million bucks..

so WizofMud -- THAT is one of the reasons we have the Pop "under" ads :) if you notice, they aren't nasty or especially stupid ads either..

7. Why help?

TBTM has a good page of references on how the media is controlled. When corporatism controls the words we hear and the images we see, democracy is a fiction. If the views and values of the rest of us are to be heard, we need to support our own media.
