I'm in for one more cycle....
With the way the media has manipulated the story about Al Gore's speech and how they distort the reality of Bush and the right-wingers, this will be the last battle for me as a member of any national Party. I was a supporter of John Kerry before Wes Clark got in the race, and then I went back to Kerry when Clark was defeated. I have admired Kerry for many years, since Vietnam. I will contine to work hard for him thru the election in November.

However, if we cannot defeat these fascists this time around, I'm ready to try a different approach. I haven't figured it out yet, but it definbitely will not be part of any of the present politically structured Parties. That's just the point I am at presently.

1. I feel the same way.

If the party can't win this election, then it is useless, and its time for a split.

The whole point of compromising leftist issues is to make us palatable enough to win. If we cannot win with Kerry vs Bush, I am not going to compromise my ideals any further.

3. I never felt so stupid

living well below the official poverty level, as when I sent a contribution to a millionaire's campaign. Maybe I'll try to send another, but this election is the last time for me too.

2. Indeed.
I am going to vote for Kerry BUT I am almost certain that nothing will change. And I am basing this on the history of right-wing power growth since JFK was assasinated.

If we wait too much longer, technology will give them an undefeatable edge against the common people.

11. The affluent have had an undefeatable edge against the common people.
As money has been given more importance and emphasis in this country, only those WITH money get any say and always get their way.

Both major political parties bend over and open up wide for the corporate dollar.

Technology splechology, we've a far greater problem on our hand$.

4. will you please write that to media when you feel that way?
i work on media rapid resonse, and you would be surprised how much difference it makes to write them. the more of us do, the more some really do double-take.

most news sources have a contact link, and even just a short, 'look again' to them matters - complete coherent explanations, even more so!

so do thank-yous to those who get things correct, and honest. that reinforcement makes a distinct difference.

keep on

peace

And for old time's sake, let me throw this in, too...

PLEASE NOTE MY SIG LINE – TO CALL YOUR REPS, TOLL FREE!!!

OR, TRY (877) – 762 – 8762. It’ll get you there, too! (Thank you, DUer redqueen!)

IF THEY THINK WE DON’T CARE, THEY WON’T, EITHER!

And, by the way, here's another testimonial to back you up, nofurylike...

"IF YOU REALLY WANT TO DO SOMETHING...make a phone call or send a paper letter. E-mails are quick and cheap and don't carry the weight of a phone call or a PAPER LETTER. Paul Begala says a hundred paper letters would change the direction of a news program." – DUer grasswire, 5/20/04

9. thank you, calimary! and for the excellent points!!
absolutely, everybody, CALL representatives and senators about everything you expect and ask of them!

thank you so for always putting that number, calimary. and i keep your AMAZING contact list on hand, every moment - and i pass it around! so generous of you, all that work, calimary and redqueen!

and YES, PAPER LETTERS!!

i was once told that a paper letter counts as one full vote, where a call (was before email) is but a tenth of a vote.

just keep on, all!!

it IS making incredible difference!

think where we were in december of 2002...

peace

5. I feel your pain. I really do.
I also believe that there will be real alternatives if the worst of all Ends happens. I hope, and will work, for a millionaire to "win" but if that bell tolls, I'm likely done.

And no, not to some single issue BS "party" either, but a Labor alternative that your average Joe, Jill, can grasp. At least I hope it'll work that way...

7. Maybe Gore will run as an Independent ?
Talk about going "crazy". They can open up more beds at the institution when that happens...

8. I'm right there with ya
and I have a feeling IF Kerry does not get it (and actually I think he will) there will be LOADS of us. I was independent before Chucklenuts stole the White House but have become a Dem for this cycle (out of the Rep and Dem parties, the Dems are easily the ones I agree with the most....I have never voted for a Rep even for dogcatcher).

I would go back to being independent again. I would really want a new party. Something that truly represents my views. My beliefs match up best with Sharpton and Kucinich out of this cycle, but my actual 100% match candidate? There is no match this time. He is "theoretical". I'm tired of he/she being theoretical.

That being said, I will continue to support DFA (Democracy for America) but I would crave something a bit more.....radical as well.

10. And, what if Kerry wins and is inaugurated, BUT nothing changes....
what then?

I have a feeling that many here are correct, that if Bushwa wins again, it's the end of the USofA as we know it, so no need to worry about being a member of a "Party".....

However, if Kerry does win, and it still goes along the same way, will you then also give up on the current system?

I say this, knowing that on DU, it seems impossible to discuss these possibilities without meeting with rancor.

However, many of us believe this scenario to be a distinct possibility, and it would be nice to be able to talk about it.
