Venezuela's opposition will ignore CNE decisions on recall
I'll post follow-up responses with a couple other articles on various topics. There doesn't seem to be much coming out in the mainstream media.

Venezuela's radical opposition will ignore CNE decisions on recall referendum

http://vheadline.com/readnews.asp?id=21394

According to direct political sources the Venezuelan opposition will, in the next few days, provoke violent actions to create a climate to justify the disavowal of the National Elections Council (CNE) if it does not activate the Presidential recall referendum. It’s presumed that international observers from the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Carter Center will disavow the CNE’s decision and leave the country.

Radical sectors of the Venezuelan Worker’s Confederation (CTV) will push for a public transportation and shipping stoppage to generate instability. There is probable intent to negatively impact petroleum operations through sabotage in operations, platform technology, and reputation and image of Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) ... paramilitary actions in key states such as Zulia, Anzoategui, Sucre, Monagas and the Capital District.

1. Ex-President Jimmy Carter says has faith in the repairs process
http://vheadline.com/readnews.asp?id=21399

VENPRES’ Nancy Mastronardi reports: After offering a brief greeting to the international and Venezuelan press, ex-president of the United States Jimmy Carter said that he has faith in the repairs process that is taking place in Venezuela.

On Tuesday, June 1, Carter might offer a press conference, at which he will give his opinion on the Venezuelan repairs process.

“I’ll visit several places with OAS secretary Cesar Gaviria to observe how the repairs process is going. Later, I’ll have an opportunity to speak to the media,” said Carter.

I hope Chavez does what he should have done in 2002 and executes the ringleaders.

11. Imprison ....

Dead men tell no tales. You can get info later out of them if you hold them captive (in a humane and civil way, no gitmo/Abu Ghraib shit).

7. I simply made an observation,
I don't know why you perceived it as an attack on you - that's not how I meant it.

4. Stolen IDs and fraudulent signatures
669 ID cards to be used for repairs fraud seized in Carabobo
http://vheadline.com/readnews.asp?id=21402

Radio Nacional de Venezuela reports: Puerto Cabello mayor Osmel Ramos denounced Saturday that 669 ID cards were turned over to Plan Republica by an official of the Carabobo regional government. The ID cards were presumably to be used for fraudulent purposes in the recall referendum signature repairs process. Of the 669 ID cards, 160 were valid cards that had been seized in roundups, presumably by the Carabobo Police.

“A Carabobo government official, who disagreed with the scheme, sent us 669 ID cards, of which 160 were valid, and the others were clones. The strange thing is that the Carabobo Police are involved in all of this.” Ramos confirmed that the Carabobo Police had taken ID cards from innocent citizens in roundups and police procedures, which were then to be used in signature repairs fraud.

Man caught with +400 fake ID cards; software to fake police credentials
http://vheadline.com/readnews.asp?id=21401

Libertador Police Chief, Commissioner Antonio Pujol, said that a man was caught Saturday in front of Plaza Madariago, near Santa Maria University in Paraiso, with 420 fake ID cards that he carried in a fanny pack. The ID cards could be used to commit fraud in the presidential recall referendum signature repairs process taking place this weekend

Bernal said that another individual had been captured in Carapita with 140 ID cards. He was identified as Rafael Gomez Roa.

In Venezuela, ID cards are the official identification documents of each Venezuelan citizen or resident in the country. Presentation of the ID card is an indispensable requirement to vote, sign, or repair a signature.

this seems to contradict other reporting that said the cards were not needed to repair a signature. Can anyon clear this up?

Venezuelan student in the US denounces the fraudulent use of his signature
http://vheadline.com/readnews.asp?id=21400

By Francesco Antonio Giovannucci Diaz: I would like to inform you of my indignation, as a Venezuelan citizen, that my rights and my privacy have been violated. The opposition has used my identification card to place my name on the list of signatures to call a referendum against the President of the Republic.

I can demonstrate that I did not participate in that propagandistic and illegal (because it wasn’t regulated by any competent organization) event, because at that moment, I was studying Petroleum Engineering in the United States of North America, and as I write this, I am still here completing my academic studies. I know that at this moment, the signatures repair process is taking place, and I’m concerned that I’m still on the opposition’s infamous list. By writing you, I hope that people interested in the transparency of the repairs process will denounce the fraudulent incorporation of my data, and remove me from the list.

6. Landowners and paramilitaries terrorise farmers
Landowners and paramilitaries terrorise farmers
http://www.greenleft.org.au/back/2004/584/584p18b.htm

The peasants of the Venezuelan countryside are being terrorised. Three peasant leaders were assassinated on April 23, in the state of Portuguesa.

All of the leaders — Jose Rodriguez, Gabriel Paredes and Juan Baptista — were shot four times in the head. They had been legally working the land after receiving letters from the National Institute of Land.

``We presume the deaths have been caused by the so-called absentee landowners’‘, said Miguel Ulises Moreneo, president of the Peasant Federation of Venezuela. ``This makes 120 peasants who have been assassinated between 2003 and this year.’‘ To date, none of the murders have been solved. While cases have gone to court, right-wing judges have let the accused go free.

Venezuela’s peasants and indigenous communities are also facing terror from paramilitaries. Four paramilitary groups based in the Colombian province of Northern Santander have carried out massacres, torture and kidnappings on the Venezuelan side of the bordering Rio de Oro river. This mountainous bordering area contains the reserve that is the home of the Bari people.

10. Terrorism????

Isn't it wonderful how selective this administration is about condeming acts of violence.????

Look for the CIA to assist in these "terrorist acts". Hell, the CIA has been the primary source of terrorism in Central and South America for the last 30 years.
