Bush about to smash a Clinton record....
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=694&ncid=703&e=1&u=/ap/20040531/ap_on_el_pr/bush_travel_costs

<snip>
An Associated Press tally of Bush's travels shows he has made at least 114 trips in the 17 months since January 2003.

Clinton flew Air Force One on 123 domestic trips between January 1995 and mid-October 1996, a period of 22 months. It was a record for re-election-related travel aboard the presidential aircraft, according to the Center for Public Integrity.

1. Of course -
the republicans made a real big deal about it in 1996.

And we defended it as no big deal.

We will now all hypocritically switch places. Isn't politics fun?

9. I don't remember the Democratic party doing a whole lot of defending
back in the 90s.

12. Poor memory.
He wouldn't have stayed President if we hadn't been defending him.

4. And in response you can easily assert that...
1) The fuel for Air Force One was much less expensive back then
2) Bill was actually *elected*

I wonder, does Georgie wear his flight suit on these trips? Does he pilot Air Force One?

8. Aha!
You've just hit upon the difference between old-school conservatives like Dole and neo-conservative lackeys like Bush. The old school needs only Viagra - they already have the equipment and can do the job (albeit with a bit of help.) The new school is not bothered by impotence, as long as their members are large.

6. Clinton was also working for us between the trips - comparison is
offensive. I remember when W refused to intrerrupt a fundraiser because of the N-E blackout! center for Public Integrity shows its Naderite roots.

7. It costs us all $ 40,000 an hour for * to be on AF One.
Don't I remember that Clinton's campaign reimbursed the Government for at least some of the travel?

The "wretched excess" image about * stuck in my mind is the one that was in the front of Sports Illustrated- with AF One taking off right behind the stands of the Daytona 500- while the race was going on. That sure resonated well with the Nascar Dads. (I did a search for the image but couldn't find it.)
