Are Rolling Thunder Criminals?
Rolling Thunder likes to present itself as Vietnam Vets on bikes. But who are they really? Are they members of bike clubs like the Hell's Angels or the Mongels? Are they members of organized crime groups? I grew up in Imperial Beach CA and my town was fought over by two bike clubs for 20 years. They both wanted the same thing. Control of the most SW city in the US so they could smuggled drugs over the border. I am no stranger to this war. I had friends who died in it. Now we have this so-called patriots called Rolling-Thunder who are supporting Bush for President. Hummmmmmmmm More criminals supporting the Bush family. Is anybody going to do real research on Rolling-Thunder. If they're FAKE bikers they won't come up with anything. But if they're real, it's better than the Soprono's. Bike Clubs are famous for rape and murder. Yes, I know dead people. Does anyone have the computer skills to take the names and get the mug shots? Or are we just going to ignore this?

1. Nah. They are more like the Soldiers of Fortune type of
bikers.

Some are mercenaries who take advantage of families of MIAs.

Rolling Thunder was formed to draw attention to the POW/MIA issue. Unfortunately, some of them mistakenly target Kerry and McCain for their work to normalize relations with Vietnam.

3. did you see the footage of Bush greeting them?
He was strutting around like a crippled rooster, trying to look tough and failing miserable amongst both "bikers" and Tommy "Tom" Thompson, decked out in leather, bandanas, and what appeared to be various Village People pins.

10. How can anyone know that?
We can only say what we know of Rolling Thunder in regard to their political function and place from what we have learned in the press over the years.

As far as I know, the press never nailed them for criminal activity, although one of the news mag shows many years ago did do an expose of some Rolling Thunder type mercenaries taking advantage of MIA families and sympathizers who bankrolled bogus search missions.

2. I I forgot. I knew a girl who's husband was wrapped in chains and
drowned because he owed a club money. I can't remember which one. They though him in the bay. She was to scared to protest. Back to my question is Rolling Thunder "real" bike clubs members or just a bunch of weekenders?

4. Criminally stupid, maybe
But I don't think this gang could do much more than take a lolly from a toddler. From the caption to the photo op in today's paper:

"The motorcycle group, which supports veterans, has endorsed the president for re-election. White House documents indicate the administration is seeking to cut spending by the Veterans Affairs Department by 3.4 percent."

Is it true that excessive drinking and other drug abuse impairs your reasoning skills?

6. I think we'll just ignore it...
Rolling Thunder is just too public to be a bunch of hoods on motorcycles. This is not to say that there are no "criminals" among them - what organization can you say that about? - but they're not collectively into organized crime. They're a SIG that pushes a POW/MIA awareness agenda... oh, and they ride bikes.

Our mission statement...

Rolling Thunder®, Inc.'s major function is to publicize the POW-MIA issue. To educate the public of the fact that many American prisoners of war were left behind after all past wars. To help correct the past and to protect the future veterans from being left behind should they become prisoners of war-missing in action. We are committed to helping American veterans from all wars!

And their latest newsletter:

http://www.rollingthunder1.com/newsletters-2004.htm

ON EDIT: They appear to be vultures who prey on the desperate susceptibility of people who have loved ones missing or killed in military action. These carpetbaggers do a monthly "Scott Speicher Remembrance." Speicher, if you will recall, was a pilot shot down and killed in Gulf War I. In the lead-up to Gulf War II ("This time, it's personal"), the military changed Speicher's status from KIA to MIA as a further buttress for its illegal invasion. Rolling Thunder plays on the emotions and the desperation of people like the Speicher family in order to drum up support for military adventurism which they themselves, unfortunately, cannot undertake personally, due to a trick knee or a bad back.

I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't know first hand how evil bike clubs are.

12. I'll go again.
I had a girlfriend who's boyfriend was loaned money from a club and got gang-raped and had all his possessions removed because he couldn't pay them back. I had another girlfriend who went to a bike party and told me a girl who rode up on a bike, who didn't have a "property of this club" sign was held in water up to her neck and raped for three days. Does Rolling Thunder want to state publicly that they don't have any rapist in their membership?

probably a few old bikers from bike gangs but by no means can you stereotype all participants.

PS. I just wish they didn't take the thunder so literally, they are way to loud. One would think it was a violation of something, my ears at least.

Edited on Mon May-31-04 04:19 PM by playahata1
Someone should ask whoever their leader is for his DD-214.

As for the conservatism of bikers and certain bike clubs, according to Hunter S. Thompson, in HELL'S ANGELS, the Angels -- at least at the leadership level -- were huge supporters of the Vietnam War. They claimed to be good patriotic Americans, although Thompson writes that -- and I am paraphrasing here -- "they would be the first ones hauled off to jail or shot by the very same powers that be they claim to agree with."

While not all bikers are outlaws, like the Angels, why do the outlaw (and slightly less-than-outlaw) types identify with the establishment, while at the same time they claim to be against everything that the establishment stands for?

24. I'll tell you a story...... What it means I don't know.
BUT in my town Imperial Beach CA which was swimming with hippies. All of the sudden, out of the blue, bikers started taking over. Creating a "black market gouge" by buying up everything and loaning it out for interest. It was a mob "capital" takeover by the bike clubs. The hippies and bikers co-existed for a long time. YEARS! But I ALWAYS suspected that the bikers were working with the cops. They would come into a peaceful community take it into Hell. If the bikers with a guilt complex would just talk now. We could find out alot.

26. I hate to keep kicking my own thread but............
I was looking for the shooting death of the Hells Angel in Long beach CA in the 80's. I remember it was in the newspaper but I can't pull it up. It was a bike show. A Hell's Angel was shot dead by a Mongel "Jinx" (the main suspect but I can't find it now. It was big news then. The Long Beach Press Telegram. This isn't the first time I had a hard time pulling up articles I know I've read. What's up with that?
