Anyone familiar with "The Daily Star" (Lebanese?)
ran across two items (from google news) that had quite a slant. Including this one: Brahimi is just a representative of the bankrupt 'Arab order' http://www.dailystar.com.lb/article.asp?edition_id=10&categ_id=5&article_id=4711#

Anyone know anything about this news source - and its ties? Thanks.

Trying to keep following the twists and turns of the unfolding Chalabi stories has led me to a couple of places where I just scratch my head. This source came up a couple of times - doesn't seem (at first read) to be a source I would want to rely upon ... but perhaps I am just getting a bad vibe because I am tired, confused by the story and cranky. Looking for input.

2. I've been checking them out now and then
According to the Guardian News Guide, Middle East, "Lebanese daily. Carries intelligent, moderate, editorial and opinon columns."

Sometimes I see biases I disagree with, but tend to attribute it to the columnist or reporter.

3. It's OK....I look at it a lot for the WMW...and pull articles out of it
esp. if they are news items that I know won't be seen in our papers here.

The World Press Review (www.worldpress.org) labels it an "Independent" daily, as opposed to Liberal, Conservative, or Government-run paper...

4. Sometimes they have stories before anyone else regarding the stuff
in Iraq, Pakistan, SA, etc. They don't go off on a tangent with their editorializing as a rule. They seem to project a pretty accurate picture of events as they unfold in the ME. In fact, comparing them to most of the foreign press that I troll, they sometimes come off as pretty moderate. I've never seen anything that I would call outrageous on the site.

5. Thanks all...
The one item that I linked, in particular, had a very big bent. Didn't know if that was typical, or not. Sounds like not (that it is generally more moderate). Just want to be cautious before I refer to a source, to understand if there is some clear bias to it.

Thanks again :hi:
