People, I think we have- right NOW- a serious, possibly catastrophic, problem re terrorism in this country, right here, on our own soil.
Over the past sever days, multiple oddities have appeared in various media sources from around the country which have detailed the discovery of random, isolated weaponry or the theft of potential weaponry. I've just read a thread which speaks of two trucks carryinf propoane fuel- one with 3,000 gallons; the other with (I think) 2600 gallons- aboard.
There have been other incidents. A terror alert, unfounded, I might add, was issued a few days ago, but it still means someone in power felt there was sufficient evidence to issue an alert. That ti was done without Ridge's knowledge is irrelevant to me, as is Ashcroft's reputation; SOMEONE felt there was enough.
We all know there are elements here, as there are everywhere, composed of religious extremists (be they Christian or Muslim) who act toward the exact same goal. How hard is it to believe one of these homegrown groups have obtained a nuke, or plan to?
I really wish we could be told more. After reading Clarke's book, I understand why we can't, but it's still frustrating.
Is an attack imminent? Unfortunately, I do think so. It is only a matter of time; we don't know what little hoards the terrorists, be they foreign or homegrown, have hidden out in the countryside. Is this adequate reason to throw away some of our freedoms? No. Yet, at the same time, we need to be able to hunt terrorists in the US down.
Maybe full disclosure to civilians immediately involved is the answer. Maybe, if we as civilians are going to be investigated for terrorist activities, we should be afforded access to all available evidence against the alleged terrorists.
I don't have an adequate answer. Do any of you?
