Kerry says Bush has created a 'backdoor draft'

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) -- Democrat John Kerry on Thursday accused President Bush of creating a "backdoor draft" by requiring thousands of soldiers to remain in the military if their tours of duty extend to Iraq or Afghanistan.

One day after the Army delivered the news to active duty soldiers and reservists, the presidential candidate raised the specter of the nation inching closer to a draft as he criticized the Bush administration for stretching the military too thin, complicating the mission to create a stable Iraq.

Kerry said the Pentagon's expansion of the "stop-loss" program -- a device that prevents military personnel from leaving when their time is up -- may have increased U.S. forces by 30,000 troops, "but this has happened on the backs of the men and women who've already fulfilled their obligation to the armed forces and to our country -- and it runs counter to the traditions of an all-volunteer Army."

"From Day One, this administration has been obsessed with threats from other states instead of opening their eyes to the perils of the new century -- terrorist organizations with or without ties to rogue nations and failed states," said the four-term Massachusetts senator, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee.

BUSH '04 = DRAFT '05

KERRY '04 = PNAC OUT THE DOOR!

KERRY HAS A NO-DRAFT PLAN AND HAS SAID "NO DRAFT" AND THE DRAFT IS "ABSOLUTELY UNNECESSARY".

HE WOULD DOUBLE SPECIAL OPS AND MAKE A CIVILIAN STABILITY CORPS AS WELL AS A 20,000 STRONG COUNTRY RECONSTRUCTION FORCE THAT WILL BE ACTIVE-DUTY (SEE ARTICLE). KERRY IS SMART--AND HE'S APPOINTED WES TO HIS ADVISORY GROUP!

1. good, Kerry's right
That's exactly what it is - a backdoor, UNFAIR draft that lets rich people, the children of Congressmen, and Bush's cronies families all off the hook while regular Americans go fight. Kerry is 100% correct - it's a backdoor draft.

3. It gets worse...

The Air Force just received news that in its Phase II of the Force Reshaping, volunteers will be accepted to cross-train from Air Force positions to Army positions.

How long do you think it will be before they start involuntarily snagging people from the other services to bolster the Army numbers? This will most likely be the final step before a true draft takes place...
