How pretentious can somebody be??? Bush pretentious. Here is proof:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5146260 /

At the end of the interview, after all the usual platitudes:

Brokaw: “Thank you, Mr. President.”

Bush: “Tom.”

Brokaw: “You think of yourself as a Ronald Reagan Republican?”

Bush: “Think of myself as a George W. Republican, different era.”

A GEORGE W. REPUBLICAN???? HE IS NOT EVEN OUT OF OFFICE YET! HE IS NOT DEAD YET! HE HAS SCREWED UP!!! SO WHAT IS A GEORGE W. REPUBLICAN!!!!

2. Good. The GOP survived Reagan. It won't survive 4-more of Bu$h.
Edited on Sun Jun-06-04 08:00 PM by DemoTex
The closer the GOP is tied to the scandalous regime of George W., the better the chances of Democrats, all.

On edit: Even Reagan, when the poor fellow makes it to his grave later this week, might just start spinning.

31. Classic. And classy! As always.
I *still* cannot get over the number of people who say things like "Bush brought dignity back to the White House" or "the grownups are back." Grownups! When he's *not* acting like a scary religious zealot or a drunk in semi-blackout, he comes off exactly like a spoiled, surly teenager.

6. Come to think of it, this might be the way to get Bush* to crack in public
Edited on Sun Jun-06-04 08:12 PM by hlthe2b
Think of it: if every time he gets a question from the press it is asking him about Reagan's legacy, or comparing his to Reagan's, particularly if it came after a string of tough questions about Chalabi, Iraq deaths, lack of support/success from his overseas adventure, etc.

Hmmm

24. If Kerry doesn't refer to Reagan during the debates and ask,
"are you better off today than you were four years ago", then I have overrated his intelligence. Shrub's campaign for re selection will be overshadowed by the image of Reagan. I'm proud that I voted against Reagan both times, but I'd feel a lot safer if he were president rather than shrub. Although I wasn't old enough to vote against Nixon either time (3 times, including 1960), I would rather have him as president instead of shrub. Nixon wasn't stupid enough to start pointless and poorly planned wars and shrub's own dirty tricks make Nixon look like an amateur. Worse than Reagan, worse than Nixon, that about says it all.

30. Yes... and there are significant quotes from Reagan that directly
criticize the kind of policies Bush* has taken. Kerry needs to use Reagan's words against Bush*.

15. It's Unbelieveable That This Moron Hasn't Been Impeached
How many presidents have initiated a war based on non-existent evidence, gives a State of the Union address in which he mentions explosive evidence against another nation without having even verified it, who compromises national security (not to mention a CIA agents life!) by blowing the cover of an intelligence agent, helps energy company's to subvert antio-trust laws and gouge customers, lies and says he didn't know about US soldiers torturing Iraqis until the rest of America did (sure, George, pull my other leg why don't you? He's dumb but he ain'y THAT dumb!). Any other president would have been impeached by now (Nixon was) but the GOP run Congress has decided they'll do nothing about a man who they know to be a liar, a criminal and a traitor all because he's a Republican too. I call Dubya a traitor because we all know he ordered that Valerie Plame's cover be blown and we all know why. If that's not a high crime or misdemeanor, then what the hell is?

17. It's the "my government" references that make my skin crawl
He hasn't the intelligence to refer to things as "my administration" which is totally different from "the government" which is an entity created by the Constitution and belonging to the public body. It' always "my government". Maybe that's why he understands squat about the seperation of powers in that document. This is one bad, wierd assed, sicko we let into power. I guess if you can sit in the Oval Office without ever being elected or ascending because of the death of a president, you kind of think of it all as "your government".

21. Ack! I read the whole interview..
Do you think guys like Brokaw walk away from those interviews shaking their head, wondering how this guy got into office? Even when Bush tries, he's still incredibly inarticulate... must be a bitch to transcribe those interviews. Brokaw tossed him some softball questions, but on the good ones, Bush interupted and deflected it. Brokaw SHOULD have pushed a bit harder on reminded that dufus that Iraq did NOT have anything to do with the war on terror.. or 9/11. But I suppose he was grateful for ANY type of interview.

Bush is so damn egotistical... George W. Republican. He's right.. whole 'nother era. The era of hell. And, he even said earlier in the interview that Europe hated Reagan, too. Oh.. he was disliked there.. but no U.S. president has ever been hated more worldwide.

26. You have a stronger stomach than I do... I looked at the bit about
Chalabi (by using the "find" option in my browser) when another poster mentioned what he said. They I remembered somebody saying that he said "sort of missed" and I found that it was supposed to be sorely missed; I was ready to close the page when I looked at the last three lines. I had to re-read them because I could not believe what I read... but yup, he thinks he is a George W. Republican!

32. Okay, that cinches it. He's a *pure* narcissist, 110%.
That's completely classic N behavior. He can't even control himself enough to make the appropriate noises--i'm sure *somewhere* in his sodden brain stem he knows enough about the game to know that paying respects to a dead Republican president would reflect well on him--but his ego gets in the way of even political self-preservation. Dingleberry.

34. I agree re: NPD
he perfectly fits every description I've ever read about N'ism..I think he even veers into Anti-Social PD or Psychopathy. Ever read Dr Richard Hare? He talks about psychopaths and another interesting feature is that according to him, psychopaths often display unusual speech patterns, malappropisms, non-sequiturs...stuff that implies the cognitive faculties aren't working quite right. Sounds like Our Great Leader to me......

36. He knows the Reagans don't like him
or his family. Wasn't Nancy pretty rude to Babs, and didn't young Ron say something along the lines of "my father craps bigger ones than W?"

Bush's scuttling of stem cell research had to have been upsetting for the Reagans--especially Nancy. Maybe she'll turn the research into some kind of memorial project in honor of her husband. Bush can't be looking forward to fighting her over that issue.

I hope reporters will keep bringing up Reagan's name. As thin-skinned as that family is, I bet Bush will keep saying the wrong thing--but then they'll probably keep him under wraps until he delivers his scripted remarks at the memorial.

39. The only explanation is a run a way Fantasy. He is so afraid of failure
it drives him to accept Fantasy as a means to contend with the truth. Denial of evidence revealing the failures of his policies. Set up by the NeoCons, Bush has his name on the projects he initiates. Now that its all coming down as miserable failures, he seeks solace in delusion.

He refuses to accept "Failure"....embracing delusional rationalizations and distortions of the truth.

George W. Republicans are basically going to be the neoconservative, fuck-the-world-we-don't-need-'em-unless-they-do-what-we-say types who vote based on social issues more than anything else. There are plenty of Republicans who won't identify with that - maybe they'll split off in November.
