US kills Pakistani soldiers[br />

The United States military is investigating a friendly fire incident on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border that killed at least two people and wounded a third.The incident happened after US aircraft flew in to support coalition forces who were being fired on while patrolling in Afghanistan's Paktika Province, said US Central Command.
"The incident resulted in the unfortunate and unintended engagement of Pakistani security forces in the area," said the statement.
The Pakistani army was reported to have said it had issued a "strong protest" to the United States over the incident.

Four Saudi police officers have died in a gun battle with suspected Islamic militants in the Saudi capital Riyadh, reports say.
Fighting raged into the evening after security forces attempted to storm villas in the southern district of al-Suwaidi late in the afternoon.
Seven people were reportedly arrested on suspicion of links to al-Qaeda and an eighth is said to have been killed.<snip>
Since the bomb attacks, Saudi security forces have arrested some 200 suspected militants across the country and killed about 12.

US soldier dies in Iraq attackTuesday, 12 August
A US soldier has died and two others have been injured in a bomb attack in the town of Ramadi, west of Baghdad.
A US military spokeswoman said three synchronised bombs blew up near a military convoy in the outskirts of the town on Tuesday.

The attack brings to 58 the number of American soldiers killed since major combat operations ended on 1 May.
It comes a day after an American soldier died in a bomb blast in the town of Baquba, north-east of Baghdad.

An explosion on a minibus in southern Afghanistan has killed 17 people, including children, police say.
One official quoted by news agencies says the bomb was planted by fighters from the deposed Taliban regime.
The blast went off Wednesday morning in Nadi Ali district to the west of the capital of Lashkargah in the southern Helmand province.

Among the dead were six children and a woman, Ghulam Mahaiuddin, head of the provincial administration, told news agencies.

Afghan forces in the southeastern province of Khost said on Wednesday they had killed 13 Taliban and al Qaeda fighters near the border with Pakistan while pushing back a major attack.Border police Major Ghafar told Reuters
two Afghan border policemen were killed in the clash, which started on Tuesday. He said two Arabs from Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network had been captured.
Ghafar said the insurgents used heavy guns, recoilless rifles, mortars and rocket-propelled grenades in their attack on a base used by a border battalion in the Shinkai area to the east of Khost and adjacent to the border with Pakistan.
"Their attack had three phases," Ghafar told Reuters.
"The last attack lasted for several hours until 6:30 this morning and after that we staged a counter-attack and the sound you can hear is outgoing fire.
