RR: Our most "popular" unpopular President (Polling Data) |
|
He was less popular than Clinton, but more popular among white people which is all that matters, right?"Reagan was not an extraordinarily well-regarded president during his eight years in office. He averaged a 53% job approval rating during his presidency, slightly below average for all U.S. presidents for which Gallup has recorded job approval ratings."

8. Jeez. I've been so brainwashed by the "conventional wisdom" |

I can't even read straight anymore.
I do remember a general tolerance of Reagan, but little real respect, like for an addled uncle who falls asleep after dinner, but not the kind of overwhelming "morning in America" rebirth that many, mostly those too young to remember, seem to be reminiscing about. I remember an era of consummate greed, expediency, me-firstness, and meanness. The era when most of my friends went from fighting the system to completely dropping out.

3. Time for an honest re-appraisal |
|
Once he's buried, it would be a very good thing for the country to review the giant impact he had on American politics. Bush*s Cowboy foreign policy and kill-the-poor, damn the deficit domestic policy can be seen as the logical extension of Reagan's legacy.
It sure would be nice to make it known that HE WAS NOT ALL THAT POPULAR. These poll numbers show it. Let's give the man his due respects until he's put in the ground, but by all means lets look at his dubious record.

In my opinion Truman and Carter were two of the best Presidents since Roosevelt, and their ratings were by far the lowest. I don't think Reagan was a great President by any means, but poll ratings are a useless indicator in determining this!
