This Reaganthon is going to kill RW hopes of using him as a prop for
Bush*. I am pretty sure that most people are already fed-up after two days of this wall to wall coverage. The only thing that will be appreciated by Federal Employees is the vacation day on Friday...But I remember somebody here was upset because he would not get his disability check on time on Friday... so people who need the federal government services are not going to appreciate even that.

7. The only impact will be
if Rove attempts to politicize it. Then I believe Bush will lose in a landslide.

3. You're right
As sickening as this all is, it'll be over in a few weeks, and then Bush will have to stand on his own. I expect some republican pundits will even opine at great lenght about how * couldn't carry Reagan's jock.

6. It Can Only Hurt Him
The Right Wing will bury their icon, compare Dimbo to Reagan and discover Shrub sucks.

Rove isn't a tenth as skilled in manipulating reverence and respect as he is in hate-mongering and that will backfire on him.

8. Reagan had a 54% approval rating at this time in 1984.
4 million new jobs had been created at this time.

By the time we send * packing back to his DUST FARM, he still would have cost us a loss of 800,000 jobs.

Reagan was articulate, Bush can't complete a 3 word phrase.

When Reagan took over, the country was in poor condition and things got better, when Bush took over, things were the best since the early sixties, and Bush screwed it all up.

Bush is NOT, not can he EVER be, A Ronald Reagan.

11. I'm appreciating the time off from TV to read all Paul O'Neils book,
and Richard Clarke's book. I hope I spelled their names correctly. I just can't tolerate anymore news on the Gipper or anymore Bush news from the media. So I've decided to just turn off TV, stop listening to the radio and read all the books I've been trying to get through. I'll get my news right here a DU.

13. It is true.
They are once more spending their capital because there is more than a bit of anxiety on their side of things. Bottom line--this election is between Bush and Kerry. I think that Kerry can most certainly put together a winning coalition. We should remember that there is also some cleavage between hard right Reagan and "compassionate conservatism." The fundies and the right-wingers might get a pick-me-up, but it won't do much for the vast center.

Bush strategists consider effect of Reagan images

By Adam Nagourney
The New York Times

WASHINGTON - From the shores of Normandy to President Bush's campaign offices outside Washington, Bush and his political advisers embraced the legacy of Ronald Reagan on Sunday, suggesting that even in death, Reagan has one more campaign in him - this one at the side of Bush.

In France, Bush heralded the late president as a ``gallant leader in the cause of freedom,'' and lionized him in an interview with Tom Brokaw. In Washington, Bush's aides said that it was Reagan as much as the first President Bush who was the role model for this president, and they talked of a campaign in which Reagan would be at least an inspirational presence.
