6. I'm willing to bet...
Edited on Tue Jun-08-04 11:31 PM by Davis_X_Machina
that there are few women steelworkers, and except for the Mohawks, few minorities. And every steelworker I've ever met was, legitimately, a tough guy in the best sense -- it's hard work, often dangerous work.

So I'm betting this guy -- and it's a guy -- is voting not his wallet, but his fears, and resentments, and that means Bush.

Bush will guarantee - or this guy thinks Bush will guarantee:
  • that at Jesus' name every knee shall bend
  • that taxes will never go up, and services will never go down
  • that foreigners will tremble when they see our might
  • that he'll get to 'keep their guns'
  • that The Other -- women, fags, liberals, coloreds -- won't 'get him'?

And finally and most important:
  • that all change will stop.

Kerry won't promise you that package. Bush will.

The joke is that Bush won't deliver it, either.

8. Wonder if he is
still employed. "You have to be a committed hardcore Republican to vote the bread right out of your mouth."
(in the words of my late grandfather, who taught me right from wrong, how to be honest and to save money, and who instilled the democratic way into me. For what time I had with that man I am very grateful. Rest in Peace, see you again in heaven.)

12. He had a lot of those one liners
Edited on Tue Jun-08-04 11:37 PM by WLKjr
He grew up in the depression with like 7 siblings and a single mother with an alcoholic father in Eastern KY in the 30's. He always spoke highly of FDR and Truman. He witnessed a lot of the 'Real Deal' way of doing things and always told me stories of his childhood and how republicans acted in those days and how they have always acted.

He always said to me growing up, "If you always work hard, get an education and be honest, good things will come to you, always remember that."

15. Yeah...
I know a lot of union members who are doing very well, and they are far removed from Haymarket Square.

They're well into the upper middle class incomes, now, and are more worried about their tax dollars going to the "undeserving" than they are about the undeserving getting a break.

16. That was William Kristol's car you saw...
He means what he tries to avoid except when of course when he doesn't want to, then he might need to really see if you really don't agree with him, which doesn't really matter, since your vote can't be bought, and he isn't implying it should be, and that may not be politically correct, but why should it be anyway....so you know what I think you really know how he wishes that I'm not avoiding to mean it...right?

Edited on Wed Jun-09-04 01:36 AM by DaveSZ
We shouldn't even give the corporate fascists this voting issue, and cause more working men and women to vote against themselves than need be.

Look:

http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=23357&SearchTerms=unions

Most of these union people will not vote Kerry because of his pro- gun control voting record.

Granted many of them are also nutjobs.

18. interesting link...
but most of the posters on that forum seemed to be rabidly anti-Union. The only poster on that website who made a positive statement about unions was martzkj@msn.com. This makes me suspect that the others were never even members of a union.

The one time I was in a Union, all the workers had a better relationship with the managers than in any other place I had worked. Only one of these workers owned a gun...a shotgun, which would not be effected by the Brady Bill or assault weapons ban. Most importantly all of these workers were happy to be in the union because of the associated benefits...even the Republicans!

20. Our union percentage is much lower than DUers apparently believe
Unfortunately, and nonsensically, those cojoined bumper stickers are hardly bizarre. I look at voting percentages frequently. Among union members, it's typically something like this:

* 63% Democratic
* 37% Republican

Among non-union members:

* 54% Republican
* 46% Democratic

Our problem is a steady decline in union percentage among the total voting block. I can't find my exact numbers, but over the past 20 years it's down dramatically, from about 20% now close to 13%.

White American males simply will not vote Democratic in huge percentage regardless of their profession, locale, etc.

One says NADER/LaDUKE 2000 and the other says ATTACK IRAQ? NO! I've never seen the driver but I really want to have words with them...

29. Not unusual at all...
A friend's husband works on the line at Ford and puts down unions at every opportunity. It just never seems to sink in that the union may be the reason he makes 80K a year.

Who ever said rethugs weren't complex? :D
